October 8, 2010

DesilvaPR-2Bermuda Motors has recently appointed Bermudian Glenn Desilva as After Sales Manager. Mr. Desilva, 47, will be responsible for all matters relating to customer service and will also oversee the company’s technical training programmes.

He brings to Bermuda Motors wide-ranging technical and managerial experience in the local motor and marine industry.

He was most recently President and Managing director of his own business, International Marine Surveyors Ltd., which was factory authorised to perform warranty work on several marine manufacturers’ products and in the inspection of high-pressure cylinders and life support systems. Between 1995 and 2005 Mr. DeSilva worked as a claims adjuster locally handling motor, property and casualty insurance claims and brings a wealth of customer service experience to Bermuda Motors.

Educated at Northlands Secondary School, Mr. Desilva graduated with distinction in automotive mechanics from Bermuda College in 1982, receiving the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce Award for Outstanding Achievement in Technology.

He began his career as an automotive and heavy equipment mechanic with former BMW and Volvo dealership Shaw Enterprises before joining Stevedoring Services in 1983 as a heavy equipment mechanic, specialising in service and repair on the company’s container cranes.

Michael Butler, General Manager of Bermuda Motors, said: “We are delighted to welcome to the company someone with Glenn’s extensive experience across so many aspects of the industry. He brings a proven ability and track record in both technical knowledge and customer service that will be immensely beneficial to our organisation.

“After Sales is a critical component of our business and we are confident that in Glenn we have someone whose drive and enthusiasm will take our reputation for excellent customer service to a higher and more sophisticated level.”

Mr. Desilva said: “I am looking forward to meeting the challenge and expectations that Bermuda Motors has given me. This is a position in which I am able to utilise all of my customer service and technical skills and experience.”

He said he hopes to expand and improve the capability of the company’s technical and service departments, especially in the increasingly specialised areas of electronic systems and computerised diagnostics. He also hopes to stage seminars in basic auto maintenance for customers and is extending customer service hours on Saturdays and some evenings.

He added: “There is a lot of competition in the auto industry and what differentiates Bermuda Motors is our after sales service. We will continue to make sure our customers get the most timely and efficient service possible.”

Mr. Desilva’s numerous professional qualifications include the Institute of Supervisory Management Certificate (UK), and Master Marine Surveyor (US Surveyors Association).

He is an elected Associate of the Institute of Road Transport Engineers (UK), the Institute of Motor Industry (UK) and an Associate Member of the Society of Operations Engineers.
