Commonwealth Games: Sprinter Sets New PB
Bermuda’s top sprinter advanced to the next round in the 2010 Commonwealth Games being held in India, setting a new personal best record, which he then shattered again in the process.
Tre Houston [pictured to the left] finished 4th in Heat 8 running in Lane 2 of the Men’s 100m, in a time of 10.58 which was a personal best that saw him finish 22nd overall in a field of 64 competitors advancing to the quarter-finals.
In the quarter-finals Mr. Houston fired out the blocks and ran a time of 10.45, which shattered his personal best time of 10.58 that he had just set.
Islandstats reported that Mr. Houston was extremely excited and proud as was Chef De Mission Stanley Douglas and Bermuda Olympic Association President Judy Simons.
In tennis, New Zealander Marina Erakovic advanced in Delhi’s heat today as she eased into the quarterfinals of the Commonwealth Games women’s tennis singles after defeating top local player Jacklyn Lambert 6 – 0, 6 – 0.
The team of Gavin Manders and David Thomas went down in straight sets 6 – 2, 6 – 3 to Darian King and Haydn Lee Lewis from Barbados.
In swimming former Olympian Roy Allan Burch finished the Men’s 100m Freestyle 19th overall clocking 51.80, missing out on a semi-final qualifying spot by .36 of a second after finishing Heat 5 in a time of 51.80 swimming in Lane 8. Meanwhile Nick Thomson finished 33rd overall in the field of 52 swimmers, swimming in Lane 7 of Heat 4 finishing in a time of 54.36.
