Bermuda Welcomes the World in London
Last week, (November 8 – 10) representatives from the Bermuda Department of Tourism (BDOT) and the Island’s hotels met with the world’s travel trade to promote the Island’s pink sands, turquoise shores and accommodations at the World Travel Market (WTM) in London.
This year, the BDOT increased its presence at the international event, which is billed as the one of the premier global events for the travel industry. This year the Bermuda booth, topped with a giant pair of Bermuda’s trademark pink shorts, treated visiting media and trade representatives to the traditional Dark ‘n’ Stormies and Rum Swizzle, all against the backdrop sound of steel pan music.

Of the exposure, Tourism Director William Griffith said, “World Travel Market is a fantastic opportunity to sell Bermuda to the UK market as well as the rest of the world. We had a packed schedule of meetings with suppliers, tour operators and media, all of whom are keen to help us drive visitors to Bermuda.”
Also during the event, Bermuda took the opportunity to thank partners for their support over the past year and preview activity in 2011. And two partners were singled out for their outstanding contribution to the island’s tourism industry in 2010. Sara Dolan, Support Account Manager, British Airways, picked up the Outstanding Partner Award on behalf of BA Holidays whilst Dominic Hodson and Andrew Bird, both Directors, from Purely Bermuda were recognised for Partnership Excellence.
Feel the love!
na giz ya money
I was in London last week, and I happened to get a taxi dressed in the Bermuda sales pitch. I travelled from oxford street to marble arch, it was probably about a mile or so.when we stopped the taxi driver said to me “that will be £118 please gov” in shock!! I said “what!! You have got to be crazy” – his reply was ” Welcome to Bermuda” true story!
@Rob – additional charges because you didn’t say ‘guhmawnin’ first. Wherr’s ya mannahs, bye?
@ ROB – SUCH A LIE! Firstly Marble Arch is at the end of Oxford Street and for you to take a taxi that journey, and be charged £118 is very unbelievable.
ONION, A Joke! on his part- but true! Maybe one day the average Londoner will be able to afford a 2 week holiday in Bermuda, but for now it’s a JOKE!
So the point you are making is about the cost of going to Bermuda on holiday? That is different then paying £118 for a cab ride 1 mile or so. The rate is charged by distance and that would not cost you £118. Keep your points to the facts.
Onion, are you sure you are an onion, we don’t usually get so confused, and I am not going to explain the taxi drivers dry humour.
