Two more field goals from Bardgett would complete her hat-trick in the 57th and 63rd minute to put the Swifts in a winning position. Inexplicably Swifts enept defending allowed Budgies’ Marcia Ford to score a field goal in the 65th minute, but a textbook penalty corner goal in the 67th minute from a direct shot from the top of the circle by Keishae Robinson drew the teams level once again. A field goal in the 69th minute off the stick of Keishae Robinson earned the Budgies the win of 5-4.

Cardinals B vs Swifts B, Final score: 1-1

This game was due to be exciting and tough as these two teams are in first and third place. Both teams exemplified great movement on the ball in defending and attacking. Swifts failed to convert 13 penalty corners received by Ryanne Bardgett at the top of the circle. ‘Keeper’ “Holly Augustus” with the assistance of defenders, Kati Flath, Wendy Cassidy, Denise Downey and Kaywell Outerbridge would prove too much for each of Swifts attempts. Kati Flat actually cleared one of Swifts passes off the line which was headed for the right corner post of the goal, but the end of the first half would remain 0-0.

In the 37th minute of the second half would see Swifts’ Bardgett take advantage of a quick ball received at the top of the ‘D’ that was nicely slammed into the back of the goal. Swifts were awarded a penalty stroke in the 50th minute which was saved by ‘DE WALL’ ‘keeper’ Holly Augustus. Augustus and her defense also saved Swifts seven shots on goal. Both teams were on continuous attack, but in the 64th minute Cardinals were awarded a short corner and after a pass received to Wendy Cassidy at the top of the ‘D’ which was released to newcomer Amori Venter who was running for the post cracked the ball into a packed circle, but it was Amori who would score off a reverse stick sweep which deflected off Swifts’ ‘keeper’ Latonia Fray’s shoulder and over into the right hand corner to even the score. Cardinals were awarded another short corner seconds before the end of the game only for the shot to go wide and the game ended in a draw 1-1.

Men’s League, Rebels vs Panthers, Final Score: 1-4

The game started with Rebels controlling the game, mainly through Ross Wyliman, and having some chances to score, which did not materialize because of some good saves from Panthers’ keeper Matthew Grace and the lack of effectiveness in executing the short corners.

The game changed after Panthers’ first goal, which came in the 21st minute after a good individual play by Christopher Chapman. After the goal, Panthers took control of the game and in the 27th minute Jerome Overbey doubled the score with a field goal which came after a good counterattack lead by Matthew Spencer.

The second half saw the Rebels putting pressure on Panthers mainly by crosses into the ‘D’. However, Panthers, through Matthew Spencer and Justin Barritt controlled the ball and in the 43rd minute Phil Philpott made it 3 – 0 to the Panthers and in the 55th minute Philpott scored again to make it 4 – 0. The Rebels pulled a goal back in the 56th minute when Matthew Fergusson scored a field goal, minutes after Matthew Grace saved a penalty flick taken by John Richmond.

Upstarts vs Chameleons, Final score: 3-6

Chameleons raced into a 4-0 lead within the first 20 minutes. In the 4th minute Richard Cox scored from a penalty corner shot, and a field goal in the 15th minute; field goals also from Adam Griffiths in the 17th minute and James Corby in the 19th minute. However with the game seemingly sewn up, complacency set in, two long balls straight down the middle lead to Upstarts’ Bruce Smith scoring field goals in the 29th minute and Adam Holdt in the 31st minute to end the first half 4-2 to Chameleons. Paul Deans scored a well executed reverse stick strike to restore the 3 goal cushion in the 58th minute of the second half, however, in the 62nd minute Upstarts’ Donny Moniz immediately struck back making the score 5-3. In the 70th minute, a fabulous 80m run saw Chameleons’ Robin Smallman carve through a bewildered Upstarts team, nutmeg the last defender and score potentially the goal of the season to end the game 6-3 to Chameleons.
