Cardwell And Toronto Defeated By York Lions
Lauren Cardwell and the University of Toronto Varsity Blues hockey team lost 4–1 to the York Lions at Alumni Field on Sunday [September 27].
The result marked Toronto’s first defeat of the 2026 regular season after four wins and a draw, leaving the Blues and York tied for second in the Ontario University Athletics [OUA] standings with identical 4–1–1 records.
York took a 3–0 halftime lead through a goal from Mufarowashe Matambo and two from Gates McAllister. Katie Tye added a fourth early in the final quarter before Toronto captain Maggie Mullins converted a penalty stroke at 48:04.
Toronto goalkeeper Mary Yang recorded seven saves across the 60-minute match.
The Blues will return to action away to the Guelph Gryphons on October 3 before hosting the McMaster Marauders at Back Campus Fields on October 4.
