Man Attempts to Attack Woman on Bike

November 12, 2010

On Monday [Nov 9] a female motorcyclist had to speed away from a man attempting to assault her in the Cemetery Road, St. John’s Road Pembroke area.

The lady said “Last night at around 6:30pm on my way home from work a man tried to attack me on my bike behind Belco, I think he was following me from North Shore, he came up beside me and kept grabbing my bottom, and smiling at me. I just started screaming and held on to my horn and drove as fast as I could, that seemed to scare him off. I called the Police, so hopefully something can be done.

“The weird thing is that I could sense that someone was following me, but I told myself to stop being so paranoid.” She has also advised ladies to be careful and to “follow your gut instinct.”

In describing the suspect she said “This man was an older black man late fifties wearing glasses a black helmet driving a black bike wearing a beige sweater.”

A Police spokesman said that “Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses; particularly anyone who may have been traveling in the Cemetery Road, St. John’s Road Pembroke area between 6pm & 7pm on Tuesday. Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011.”

What TV Channel or web sight can I find this besides here. I checked the BP web sight I saw nothing.

Looking for witnesses? That is becomming a too frequent statement.

If someone saw it, they would have said something by now even without a complaint.

lol, just like they would have for all of those firearms incidents, right? people love to come forward as witnesses.

How slow are you driving if someone is able to drive next to you and touch your bum? Would have kicked him off his bike if he was that close.

    • no says:

They, uh, just have to be driving at the same speed you are…………..

    • Mecouldanevatunarapa says:

Yeah Jay, don’t they teach all women to do that at Project Ride? Correct me if i’m wrong but I thought girls couldn’t get a license unless they could kick a big man off his motorcycle at at least 15mph. She must be from de ol school. Or maybe she doesn’t have a licence~! AHA! She just incriminated herself. Jay you are a genius!

  3. Bermy World says:

Sorry but this story sounds a bit off. Was she on a push bike??

    • Mecouldanevatunarapa says:

@Bermy World. Yeah she must have been on a pushbike because this story does not match the 100mph speeds we do on our massive 6 lane curvy highways here in bermy, nope, woulda neva pulled that off as fast as ppl be going across belco! Yup! She just held on to that pushbike horn and sped away pedaling as fast as she could from that assailant who was following her all the way from north shore on God knows what.
And you were the only one to figure it out! Genius!

Did she not get his license plate number? I’ve never been in this position, but his plate number is the second thing I’m gonna try and get.

    • _ says:

Having been in a similar situation I can tell you that when you’re caught off guard by an attacker and your adrenaline kicks in your only thought is to get away. Paying attention to license plate numbers and other details about the assailant is not as easy as one might think. I’m sure trying to maintain control of a moving vehicle at the same time doesn’t help either!

      • also says:

If you’re on a bike and being harassed like that, you won’t be able to see the license plate anyways, as it sounds like the bike was behind her and we don’t have front bike license plates.
It’s just plain hard to drive when you’re in that situation. I knew someone who decked going around the roundabout trying to get away from an ex.

    • Mecouldanevatunarapa says:

Yeah she should have slowed down and asked the assailant “Excuse me Mr. raper would you be so kind and ride in front of me so I can get your license plate number?” And she should have done this while fluttering her eyelids to appeal to his gentlemanliness while simultneously reaching for her notepad and pen that she always keeps in her front pocket just for these occasions. The dumb woman could easily have balanced the bike with no hands while writing the digits calmly and navigating the corner. Can’t all Bermudians do dat? I mean, if i was being attacked i sure as hell won’t be lookin at the guys face instead of the license plate or tryin to get away. Hmph he might think thats sexy and i dont wanna be givin him no ideas, nope.

Belco has cameras all along Cemetery Rd so the appeal for witnesses shouldnt be to difficult. Check the cameras, they don’t lie, and they wouldn’t even need to go in the witness protection program.
