Sprinting: Former Olympians to Face Off

track101124Three of Bermuda’s best all time athletes will face off in a sprinting challenge in a fundraiser for the Bermuda Track and Field Association.

Former Olympians Brian Wellman, Troy Douglas and Devon Bean will race a 40m Challenge on Saturday December 4th at 7:00pm at National Sports Centre.

One of the best sprinters in Bermuda’s history, Troy Douglas finished second at the 1995 IAAF World Indoor Championships in the 200 metres event, and represented Bermuda at the 1988, 1992 and 1996 Summer Olympics.

A former world class triple jumper, Brian Wellman is one of the best Bermudian athletes of any genre. A four time Olympian, Mr. Wellman had two top six finishes in the Olympics; 5th in 1992 and 6th in 1996, and won the World Championships in 1995.

Devon Bean competed at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, and is the Bermuda National Record Holder in the 100 metres.

There will be forms in the sport stores for the public to vote on who they feel will win this race with the proceeds going towards Bermuda’s Carifta 2012 preparation. There will be a draw for the persons who picked the winner, with the prize of an ASICS International sports package on offer.
