Christmas: Government Clarifies Public Holidays

December 22, 2010

The Cabinet Office has re-issued the following  notice to clarify any confusion as to which days over the holiday season have been declared as Public Holidays.

The Public holidays are Christmas Day 25th December, and as Christmas day falls on a Saturday, Government offices will be closed on Monday 27th December, 2010.

As Boxing Day, 26th December 2010 falls on a Sunday, by virtue of the Public Holidays Act 1947, the Governor on 29th September 2008 declared that Tuesday 28th December 2010 should be kept as a Public Holiday according to the Schedule to the 1947 Act.

The Cabinet Office also advised that as New Year’s Day, 1st January 2011 falls on a Saturday, Government Offices will be closed on Monday 3rd January 2011.

  1. Hard Worker says:

Govenrment really needs to enforce this as most retail shops throughout the city are opening on the Tuesday Decemberm 28th, 2010.

I feel the retail stores that are opens should receive a fine for being opened as that is to be considered a public holiday according to the Public Holida Act 1947 sec 8..

Government GET ON TOP ON IT QUICK…..

  2. Eye in the sky ... says:

Businesses opening on Tuesday (in this instance) are normally open on Saturday , so they shut on Saturday (Xmas Day) and their staff are off.
By the time Tuesday rolls around the store has been shut for two working days more than usual and the staff have had two more days off than they would normally have in a work week.
(why does this need explaining ? LOL)

NOW .. if you want something to ponder try this one out…. Government is normally shut on Saturdays. However , there will be trash collection on Tuesday so do you suggest that Gov’t seriously look into themselves ?
And furthermore ,putting the dire financial situation our beloved gov’t is in, if the staff are normally off on Saturday will they be collecting overtime for working on Tuesday which is the observance for Boxing Day ?
