Video: ACE “25 Years of Insuring Progress”
The ACE Group has opened an art exhibition, called “25 years of Insuring Progress.” The exhibition highlights the history of the company, its roots in Bermuda and its growth from a Bermuda-based monoline insurer to one of the world’s leading global providers of commercial property and casualty insurance and reinsurance.
The 13-panel exhibition in the ACE Gallery showcases the ACE Group’s accomplishments over the last 25 years, with a focus on its people and activities in Bermuda that are part of a global organisation. Along the lobby level of the ACE Building, a selection of pieces from ACE’s art collection have been selected to depict the celebration of the ACE Group’s 25 years in business. These include Peter Woolcock cartoons, photography, news articles and annual reports representing the ACE Group’s growth over the years. Also on display is the company’s New York Stock Exchange certificate it received when it became a public company in 1993.
The exhibition was researched by Kirsten Badenduck, who went through the company’s archives and selected key historical information. This background was used by ACE’s Art Consultant, David Mitchell, who selected artwork from the company’s permanent collection that chart the company’s progress and hung the entire exhibition. Rose Jones and Paul Shapiro handled the creative design and produced the panels.

“The exhibition is a rare look back at the achievements of a progressive company,” said Amy Shillingford, Director of Bermuda Communications for The ACE Group. “We have retrieved a selection of the permanent collection from our archives and added some unique business memorabilia that we welcome the public to visit as part of our 25th anniversary celebrations. As the company was founded in Bermuda, we wanted to include a public element to observe our milestone to thank the island for its support over the last quarter of a century.”
The ACE Gallery, located in the ACE Building, 17 Woodbourne Avenue, Hamilton, is open to the public on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11am – 2pm or by appointment for groups. Groups should call in advance to book an appointment on 295 5200. The exhibition runs until May 2011.
Also as part of the company’s 25th anniversary celebrations, the senior management team is participating in a global road show meeting with clients and brokers, investors and employees in 18 cities. The Bermuda events are taking place this week. The road show kicked off in March and has already visited Philadelphia, Atlanta, Sydney and Hong Kong. It will continue to New York and Boston in the next few weeks with other cities planned in the first half of 2011 including Mexico, Sao Paulo, Singapore, Los Angeles, London, Paris and Zurich. In addition, the company has placed ads in major publications around the globe thanking its friends, distribution partners and customers who have supported it over the years. On October 22, the company held a Global Day of Service where over 7,500 employees in 46 countries participated in 200 projects around the world. In Bermuda, 120 employees completed 11 projects with local charities. An employee celebration was also held this week in Bermuda.
