CACAC Announce 2010 Bermuda Athletes of Year

shianne smithThe 2010 Central American and Caribbean Athletics Confederation [CACAC] announced Shianne Smith [pictured to the left] and Tyrone Smith as Bermuda’s Female and Male Best Athletes of 2010.

Earlier this year, Shianne Smith shattered the Bermuda National Heptathlon Record with 5,127 points. She studied kinesiology at Cal State University, and competed all through her college years, winning a multitude of awards and honours.

On July 26 of this year Tyrone Smith won the gold medal in the Men’s Long Jump at the CAC Games, a notable win in that it was the second ever gold medal for Bermuda in the history of the CAC Games, and he also set a new Bermuda record with a leap of 8.03m. At the 2010 Commonwealth Games in India, Mr Smith put on an top class performance to claim a 5th place with his best leap being 7.76.

The CACAC Male and Female Athletes of the Year are Dayron Robles from Cuba and Veronica Campbell-Brown from Jamaica, and the best Juniors were announced as Dailenys Alcanatara Cuba’s Triple Jump World Junior Champion and Kirani James Grenada’s World Junior Champion in 400m.
