False Statements: Pair Plead Not Guilty

January 15, 2011

Appearing before Chief Magistrate Archie warner in Plea Court yesterday morning [Jan 14], Jamiko Gibbons and Chanel Bento, both 29 years old, pleaded not guilty to several charges and alternate charges of attempting to provide, actually providing, and conspiring to provide false written statements or testimony so as to pervert the course of justice.

All the various counts rose from actions alleged to have been taken by the pair on 20 December 2010, and involved statements alleged to have been made to Ms Elizabeth Christopher as the Commissioner of Oaths. The duo were represented by lawyer Charles Richardson.

Prior to entering their plea, there was a long legal discussion involving Mr Richardson and the DPP Prosecutor in relation to an amount of cash that had been confiscated from the pair by the Police. At the end of these legal arguments, the Magistrate ruled that the confiscation and holding of the cash should continue for at least the next 90 days with time to start on February 1st 2011.

They were granted bail of $5,000 with one surety with a trial set for 9:30am on 20 April 2011 in Court #2.
