Minister Burch Visits Fire Service Recruits

Earlier today [Jan 26] the Minister of National Security David Burch visited the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service Recruit Training Course at the Hamilton Fire Station. Fourteen Bermudian men are currently in week three of the 26 week course. The training team is led by Lt. Troy Furbert.

Today Minister Burch said, “It was inspiring to spend a short time with these young men who are joining a Service that has a proud history and commitment to safety and rescue in Bermuda.”

During the brief discussion, some of the men indicated that the Fire Service is a second career choice for them.Ranging in age from 19 to 40 years, the recruits hail from backgrounds as varied as marketing, construction and plumbing.

The Minister observed that “these men are excellent examples of the power of positive life choices”. He said, “The course is intense and is designed to produce a professional fire services officer trained in a variety of disciplines. On behalf of the Government I went to encourage them and support them as they embark on a career of uniformed service to Bermuda.”
