Accident: Traffic Diverted on Middle Road

Shortly ago this afternoon [Feb 18], a Police spokesman said: “There has been a two vehicle injury road traffic collision that has resulted in injury in the area of Chaingate Hill and Middle Road in Devonshire by Somersfield Academy. As a result traffic is being diverted in the area. We are asking for the motoring public to be patient as there will be delays.”

Updated Police statement: “Around 4:20pm on Friday, February 18th 2011 Police responded to a report of a road traffic collision that took place at the junction of Middle Road and Chaingate Hill in Devonshire. At this time it appears that a car and a motorcycle collided. As a result the motorcyclist has been taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital with head injuries. Currently his condition is unknown. As an extreme measure of caution officers from the Traffic Collision Investigation Unit are on scene and we are asking for the public’s indulgence as they conduct their inquiries. Traffic is being diverted away from the area until further notice and motorists are asked to take alternate routes if possible.”

    Hope the injured is not in serious condition. That junction coming out of chaingate hill onto middle road is a real nightmare. I have had a near miss or two myself there.
