Tribute Video to Leaha Lanfear

February 7, 2011

A tribute video ‘The birds still sing her name’ has been posted online, dedicated to Leaha Lanfear who died late last year in a traffic accident on East Broadway.

Creator Steve Haich said: “It touches on the grief and the tragedy but says that we should remember and celebrate how beautiful and amazing she was…’The birds still sing her name’,”

Originally from the UK, Ms Lanfear was a hairstylist at Renaissance Salon who had recently moved to Bermuda.

Ms Lanfear, 24, was involved in a single vehicle motorbike accident early in the morning on December 16, 2010 on Crow Lane in Pembroke near the junction with Corkscrew Hill. She sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to King Edward Memorial that morning, placed in the Intensive Care Unit, and was later airlifted to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore for further medical treatment, where she sadly passed away.

Mr Haich and Ms Lanfear were a couple in the UK before she moved to Bermuda, and he visted her in Bermuda in May 2010, which was the last time he saw her. Mr Haich said: “We were very much in love. We separated because she was determined to travel before settling down, I had just begun studying within my employment so we decided it wasn’t feasible for me to come. She was beautiful, funny and a free spirit.”

“With emotions high the visit didn’t end especially successfully and confirmed our split. Although we had our ups and downs we continued with occassional emails and texts that showed we cared for each other. I, like everyone who knew her in the UK I couldn’t wait for her eventual return home. I’ll always love her and she will never be forgotten.”

“I was in Gambia, Africa for the funeral unable to get back. I needed to write this song and put together the tribute, mainly as a gift to Leaha to express how much she meant to me and in the hope that in my absense it may be played on the day of her final journey. Leaha’s family, to whom I’ve remained very close to and think the world of played it at her Wake which I’m extremely grateful for.”

The photos used in the video are from photos a holiday the two took together to Goa, India a few months before she left for Bermuda.

Mr Haich said: “Although the recording is basic, I’m very happy with this song and think it says all I want to say without being too personal. It touches on the grief and the tragedy but says that we should remember and celebrate how beautiful and amazing she was…’The birds still sing her name’ , expressing that her soul and spirit will live on forever through everyone blessed enough to have known her. I plan to record the song professionally and I know it certainly wont be the last song I write with Leaha in mind. I really hope she would have liked this one.”
