Arrest After Chase & Police Officer Injured

March 24, 2011

[Update] A 27-year-old man was arrested this morning [Mar.24] after a Police officer was pushed, sustaining a “potentially serious head injury.”

Officers had followed the motorcycle rider from Court Street after he failed to stop. A brief vehicle and foot pursuit took place before the motorcycle rider was intercepted outside a Middletown Lane residence.

A Police spokesman said, “Around 3:30am on Thursday, March 24th 2011 Police were on mobile patrol along Court Street in Pembroke when they encountered a motorcycle at the junction with Dundonald Street.”

“The officers attempted to stop the motorcycle to speak with the rider; however despite the use of the Police vehicle’s emergency equipment the motorcyclist failed to stop. A brief vehicle and foot pursuit took place before the motorcycle rider was intercepted outside a Middletown Lane residence.”

“At that location the suspect apparently pushed one of the officers causing him to fall before fleeing the scene. The officer sustained a potentially serious head injury as a result and was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment where doctors continue to assess his injury. A 27 year old Pembroke man was subsequently arrested in connection with this incident. ”

“Inquiries are ongoing. Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011 or the independent, confidential Crime Stoppers Bermuda hotline on 800-8477.”

Update March 25: The Police said today that “The officer injured following a pursuit in the North Hamilton area around 3:30am on Thursday, March 24th is recovering on a general ward at the hospital.”

Now just imagine if your headline was ‘suspect injured after being pushed down embankment whilst holding knife to officer throat’

Wow….it would take me an hour to read the comments…..

Wait till an officer gets shot and killed here. Then you will have some serious Police work going on. Not just tickets for the speeding and parking offences!

your right truth….I’m tired of Burch’s tough talk without results. they know who the idiot gangsters are but police don’t go after them until they kill. maybe its time to envoke anti gang law. If proven you run with a gang, your azz gets locked up

      • #Thatisall says:

LIKES THIS^^^^^ I don’t see why they wouldn’t … If you are proven to be a gang member/affiliate… however they like to put it— JAIL!! All the police have to do is go on Facebook.. These guys paster their pics up with their fingers all twisted up… Bang yall don’t even have to get off your butts problem solved!

Sorry Truth- It’s not what they KNOW…it’s what they can PROVE. If the Bermudian Community doesn’t want to step forward with information on actual events then we are going to stay in this vicious cirle. These guys have their weapons hidden out there and people in the community know where! Your plea should be to the public- not the police. Get the weapons- then get the suspect!
I am all for ‘guilty by association’ though! Unfortunately that’s not reality here!

here is to hoping that the officer makes a speedy recovery….the offrnder in this case will probably walk away with a fine anyway like everyone else that assaults the police…i was court the other day for a speeding ticket and there was this guy there who hit a cop with a motorcycle and he wont even spend a day in jail for it nor did he get a fine….poor court system is what i call it…i paid my $300 and took my 6 demerit points like a man cause i did the crime.

You know, it seems like a plot all over the world to just frustrate the lives of law-abiding citizens. You pay your taxes, they expect your vote in support of the government of the DAY, but then stick it to you when they fail to run the country effectively with your vote and tax dollars, while living high on the hog convincing everyone else to stay low. I say fired the lot and hire some that are willing/can get the job done. The island is not what it used to be. At this point I am neither ubp or plp……or for that matter bda. I am for every Bermudian who loves what we can achieve together if we try. Hard times call for hard decisions to be made……. STOP PLAYING AROUND AND LET US DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT. TALK IS DONE, TIME FOR ACTION.
