Bermuda Educators Council Council Members
The Bermuda Educators Council announced the new 2011-2015 Council Members as per the results of the Council Election held yesterday [Mar. 22]
Council Director, Sheila Hendrickson explained, “Pursuant to the provisions in the Bermuda Educators Council Act 2002 and the Council’s Electoral Scheme Rules, 11 Council Members are appointed through an election process that allows all licensed Educators and Para-Professionals the opportunity to be nominated for a position on the Council and as importantly, be a part of the selection process through their vote.”
The newly voted in Members of the Bermuda Educators Council for the 2011-2015 term are:
Principal from a Public School:
- O’Brien A. Osborne – Somerset Primary
Principal from a Private School:
- Dr. Lois P. Tucker – Bermuda Institute
Educators from a Public School:
- Tajuana A. Dean – Port Royal Primary
- Diana R. Dill – Warwick Pre-School
- Henry E. James – Berkeley Institute
- Carlton E. Johnson – Francis Patton Primary
Educators from a Private School:
- Tina M. James-Outerbridge – Somersfield Academy
- Frigga M. Simmons – Bermuda Institute
- Michelle S. Squire – Saltus Grammar School
Para-Professional:
- Carolyn L. Davis – Paget Primary
Educators with Specialist Qualifications:
- Phyllis Y. Harshaw – CedarBridge Academy
Five Members were also recently appointed by the Minister of Education Dame Jennifer Smith:
- Warren Jones – Employers of Educators Representative
- E. Maureen Edness Eddy – General Public Representative
- Vivlyn Cooper – General Public Representative
- Martha Harris Myron – General Public Representative
- Zina C. Tucker – Parents of Pupils Representative
Ms. Hendrickson continued, “To ensure the integrity of the voting process, I and the previous Council worked very closely with Mr. Randolph Scott, Parliamentary Registrar of the Bermuda Government, and Council lawyer, Larry Mussenden.
“We have three returning Council Members, Mrs. Tina James-Outerbridge, Mrs. Frigga Simmons and Mrs. Diana Dill and 8 new Council Members. I’m very much looking forward to working with the new Team who will need to hit the ground running. There is much work to be done as we work to ensure that our Educators and Para-Professionals have access to appropriate professional development opportunities which should result in Bermuda’s young people experiencing the highest quality of education.”
“The new Council will be fully oriented as to the mandate of the Council and their particular roles and responsibilities. I would like to congratulate the new Council Members and thank them, and all of the nominees, for being willing to give of their time to ensure the full development of our educators, para-professionals and ultimately, our young people. I would also like to thank all of those who provided ground support as Returning Officers, Presiding Officers and general volunteers.”
