March 6, 2011

Bermuda Track & Field Association [BTFA] President Donna Watson has announced that Bermuda will be sending a team to compete in the Gibson Relays in Jamaica this week.

“We have been awarded sponsorship from Samsung for $5000.00 to send a team to compete in this event. Due to the depth and success in middle distance running the NACAC President offered us these funds and this opportunity,” said Ms Watson. “There will be over 4000 persons and 298 teams competing in this event. This event is being sponsored by Gatorade and they have increased their funding from $500,000 to $800,000. This just shows the support for Track & Field in Jamaica.”

Our team who will be competing in the open mile consists of:

  • Shaquille Dill – 800m medalist in Carifta and CAC Jnrs
  • Juma Mouchette – 1500m medalist at Carifta
  • Darico Clarke – 800m finalist at Carifta
  • Chayce Smith – 4th place in the KPMG Front Street Elite Mile

The BTFA President said, “These athletes have the possibility of placing in the top 3 in the mile event. This team will also compete in the 4X800 and I expect them to place well in that event. Traveling with the team will be Wayne Bean.”
