Bermudian Named As Top 10 Industry Figure
To mark its 30th anniversary, global re/insurance trade journal “Reactions” is this month ranking the 30 most influential industry players of the last three decades – and a Bermudian was today [Apr. 20] listed in the number eight slot.
Brian Duperreault — who was inducted into the Insurance Hall of Fame earlier this year — is president and CEO of the world’s largest insurance brokerage firm Marsh & McLennan Cos. Inc.. and former CEO of Bermuda-based ACE Ltd.
“Bermuda-born Brian Duperreault had a large role to play in transforming the island of his birth into a global insurance centre,” said “Reactions” profile of the Bermudian executive.
“During his time as chairman and CEO of Ace Limited from 1994 to 2004, he embarked on an ambitious quest for expansion, including the brave purchase of Cigna P&C, which cemented Ace as a truly international insurance and reinsurance powerhouse. He was formerly CEO of AIG’s American International Underwriters.
“Duperreault retired as Ace’s chairman in 2007, but was not done there. He took over as president and CEO of Marsh & McLennan Companies in January 2008, and embarked on a plan to restore the firm’s reputation and performance following some tough years following Eliot Spitzer uncovering evidence of bid-rigging at its broking unit, Marsh, in 2004. To the surprise of no one, Duperreault succeeded in quickly getting the firm back on its feet.”
