Video: Daren Herbert Appears On A&E TV Drama

May 16, 2011

Bermudian actor Daren A. Herbert appeared on A&E’s new drama Breakout Kings on May 8 2011.

The drama — about fugitives helping the police catch other fugitives and originally developed for Fox — premiered in March 2011.

Tired of outdated methods of law enforcement, veteran U.S. Marshals Charlie Duchamp and Ray Zancanelli decide to reject protocol and take an unorthodox approach to their work: using former fugitives to catch current ones.

Daren A. Herbert plays a transvestite named Chastity in an episode called ‘Paid in Full‘. He underwent an hour and a half transformation in the hair, make-up, and wardrobe trailers to emerge as his character.

Watch a brief clip of the episode featuring Mr Herbert below:

Mr Herbert has previously appeared on screen opposite stars such as Beyonce, Eddie Murphy, John Cusack, Woody Harrelson, Kimberly Elise, and Thandie Newton, appeared on stages around the world including Bermuda, Canada, Japan, South Korea and the United States, and in commercials for leading companies including Dodge and Samsung.

The son of Lilette and Brian Herbert, he attended Warwick Academy High School, and began performing as a teenager with Bermudian organization United Dance Productions.

  1. hello BERMUDA!!! says:

I just wanna know how much do you get paid for playing a trany or a gay guy on tv??? lol!!!!

  2. J Starling says:

As much as his standard rate as an actor would be. Why should it change depending on the character being portrayed? Or are you just being homophobic, in which case what’s your problem with it?

    • J Starling says:

D’oh. Meant to also congratulate the actor for landing the job – Well done!

      • hello BERMUDA!!! says:

IT’S A QUESTION CAN YOU ANSWER IT OR NOT ???? IF YOU CANT DONT WAISTE MY TIME I DIDNT ASK FOR COMMENTS ……

        • J Starling says:

LOL – Didn’t ask for comments on a comment-based media. Bravo.

The answer, which I gave, is ‘standard acting rate that he charges’ with the follow-up question of why you would think it would change depending on the character played.

That you felt the need to even ask the question implied you were being homophobic, and I was curious why it mattered to you. First off, the guy is acting, and secondly, what does it matter if he plays (or even is) gay or a tranvestite?

          • hello BERMUDA!!! says:

HEY LOOK MAN IF YOUR GAY THATS YOUR BIZZ I WASNT BEING A HOMOPHOBE LOL BUT ITS SEEMS YOUR STUCK ON IT… AND IF U HAVE A DOLLAR AMOUNT RATHER THAN JUST SAYING THE RATE HE CHARGES THEN YOU CAN SAY YOU ANSWERED MY QUESTION….

          • Away says:

J Starling, why are you even entertaining her?

            • J Starling says:

@ Away – Because prejudice, be it sectarian, racism or sexism (of which homophobia is) needs confronted, understood and hopefully, through that process, they can learn to overcome their prejudice.

@ hello Bermuda – I did not mention my own sexuality, nor is it relevant. If you just want to find out how much the actor makes in wages, no, I don’t have a dollar amount, but that’s not what you asked. You asked how much he makes in specific reference to his acting a tranvestite character, implying that the wages would be different from acting in general, which I’ve challenged. Why the use of capitals anyway? Is your capslock stuck or something?

              • hello BERMUDA!!! says:

HEY I JUST ASKED THE QUESTION BECAUSE THE NIGHT BEFORE ME AND MY GIRL WAS WATCHING A MOVIE AND THERE WAS A COMMON ACTOR PLAYING A GAY ROLL “THE MOVIE WAS A COMEDY” AND SHE ASKED JUST OUT OF THE BLUE “I WONDER HOW MUCH ACTORS GET PAID TO ACT GAY” SO BY ME ASKING “I just wanna know how much do you get paid for playing a trany or a gay guy on tv??? lol!!!!” DOESNT MEAN IM A HOMOFOBE SO YOU PEOPLE CAN GO GET A LIFE AND THERE WASNT ANY DISRESPECT TO DAREN IN FACT A APLAUD HIM BUT MY QUESTION WAS JUST A QUESTION YOU PEOPLE ARE REAL FREAKS LOL AND MY SISTA IS GAY SO WAT U TRYNA TELL ME ABOUT HOMOPHOBIA …. BUT I DONT SEE WHY I HAVE TO EXPLAIN MY REASONS FOR ASKING A QEUSTION TO PEOPLE AS IGNORANT AS YOURSELVES GO SUCK A EGG OR SOMETHIN LAMOS

                • 809 says:

All I’m saying mate is you might want to look at rephrasing your question next time

“Does anyone know if actors get paid more to play the role of a transvestite or homosexual?”

The fact that you’re laughing out loud at the end implies that you’re not to be taken seriously

                  • hello BERMUDA!!! says:

no people just assume take out the ume and thats wat they are

  3. Alicia B says:

Mad props to you Daren…proud to see how far you’ve come since Bda College days when you first started out….CONGRATS! Wishing you much more success!!!! Very glad to see you on this show its becoming one of my favs this season.

  4. US Observer says:

TO hello Bermuda!!! – You could have asked the question without the “lol” at the end. It implied you were trying to make fun of Daren. You shouldbe supporting a fellow Bermudian and not be concerned about how much he gets paid for his obvious acting ability. What is your special talent? By the way, what he made in this one episode may be far more than what you have in your current bank account. I’m not being a smart-ass, just keeping it real. Stay in your own lane or get off the road.

  5. One LOve says:

I think that most people who have a little understanding of how difficult it is for any actor to find real wotk accepts that this is a HUGE accomplishment. Well done Mr.Herbert, well done!

  12. Toni M Robinson says:

I had the opportunity see Daren in ‘action’ in the production of ‘No Ordinary Christmas’ a few years ago at Ruth Seaton James Auditorium. I was also part of this production and his portrayal of ‘King Herod’ was the hightlight of the show for me. Daren, Congratulations and Much Success!!! We know how hard you have worked – the rewards are on their way.

  13. Congratulations Daren & I wish you all the best & much success, @ least you accomplished part of your goals, continue to strive you will make it, nuff respect, old co-worker Della
