“B. Monét — Award-winning writer and director whose short film Q.U.E.E.N. will screen during the weekend. Her work and collaborations span platforms and brands including BET, Sundance, Glamour, Hulu, Warner Bros., HBO and Fujifilm.

“Their participation brings international experience into direct conversation with Bermuda’s creative community, opening space to exchange ideas, share knowledge and explore connections across borders.”

Reflecting on her participation, B. Monét said: “It is incredibly special to be recognised not only for my work, but for what I carry as a Black storyteller and artist within the diaspora. What Bermuda is building through the inaugural Bermuda Black Film Weekend feels intentional, necessary and alive—rooted in community, history and possibility. I deeply connect with the festival’s commitment to creating space for Black diasporic storytelling on our own terms, while giving our stories the global visibility they deserve. I am especially moved by the opportunity to connect with Bermuda’s young women through GIFTED and to contribute to conversations about filmmaking across borders. I am genuinely honoured to be part of this Founders Edition and look forward to coming to Bermuda, sharing my film and contributing to what promises to be a meaningful new cultural platform.”

Bermudian Talent At The Heart Of The Conversation

A spokesperson added, “Bermuda’s own creative voices are central to the programme. Featured Bermudian industry professionals and media contributors, some include Wendy Tucker Tannock, Sia Spence, Dr. Dana Selassie, Dion the Creative, Khalilah Robinson, Zina Edwards, Kandall Trott. Through panels, conversations and media engagement, these contributors will bring local knowledge, professional experience and Bermudian perspectives to a programme built around exchange.

“For emerging filmmakers, actors, writers, photographers and other creatives, the weekend offers an opportunity to learn from professionals at home and abroad, ask questions and build relationships. For the wider community, it is a chance to recognise Bermuda’s talent and see the island’s stories as part of a larger global conversation.

From Young Voices To International Connections

“From Thursday’s Gifted Girls Summit to film screenings, industry panels and Sunday workshops, the programme connects cultural celebration with learning and participation.

“Its significance reaches beyond the screen. By bringing stories from Africa and the diaspora into conversation with Bermudian experiences, the festival creates space to explore identity, belonging, history and possibility. It also gives young people access to creative role models whose journeys can help them imagine a future for their own gifts.

“The Founders Edition marks the beginning of a platform through which Bermuda can strengthen its creative community, develop international relationships and welcome audiences seeking meaningful cultural experiences.
