“The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads.”

3rd Lane? Really? Cyclist are cutting up the middle and riding the line or on the side? Well, I will be driving in Bermuda during CupMatch and have full insurance coverage on my SUV. I won’t have an issue staying in my lane and will not move over to avoid an on-coming or passing motorcycle. “YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED”…
You sound so stupid. You wouldn’t be saying that when you injure someone. Is not moving over worth taking someone’s life? Because of the mentality of riders on the island, reckless riding behaviours will not change anytime soon. Regardless of how foolish a bike rider may be behaving on the roads, you must never forget that YOU should drive with Care, Caution, and Courteousy!
Its people like you in your SUV’s that cause problems and injure people. Big cars and not being able to drive them is the major problem.
Dont bring your US driving mentality to Bermuda. Keep that sh*t out there where more people are killed in 3 months of the year then Bermuda’s population.
NO country has bad drivers like the US.
It’s not suv’s. Most of the accidents reported had no suvs involved. The car that flipped over and the driver “disappeared” was a saloon car. The car that hit a bike was a saloon car. It’s saloon cars that are inherently dangerous, not suvs. They should stop bring in saloon cars.
I am on a bus coming into Hamilton. The bus stops at the traffic light just before the Flagpole. Just as the bus is moving towards the bus-stop just past the flagpole, a cyclist overtakes the bus on the inside. The bus driver saw the cyclist in time and stopped. In the mornings on East Broadway scores of cyclists make a third lane. Most motorists are driving with care – however, if they were to move for the cyclists, some would be on the sidewalk. And if one is overtaking on the inside and someone is on your right, as a driver where do you go?
you go straight.. Bermuda has too many cars on the road. The same cant be said about motorbikes.
As a fellow bike rider, I see a few different problems on the road every morning as I make my way into town.
Firstly, I do over take which is fine to do IF you are not causing the others on the road to have to maneuver to make way for you.
However, I see too many bikes taking over at the same time and people having to swerve into traffic and causing the others behind them undue stress, not really fair is it?
I also see MANY people stopping traffic to let others out. Understand that it wastes gas to come to a complete stop and let other people out secondly, okay let a couple of people out, but more than three is beyond ridiculous and the traffic behind does not have to allow you to play traffic warden.
Another thing is these people that have SUV’s and work trucks that aren’t capable of driving them properly. I see a definite lack of depth perception going on around this island. If you can’t drive the vehicle without almost colliding with oncoming traffic, then you probably shouldn’t be driving it.
The last thing I would like to speculate on is I feel that many cars going into town are jealous because they have to sit and wait and wait and wait in traffic while us bikers easily pass all the waiting cars and get into town MUCH faster. If you’re jealous, get a bike.
I am guilty of using the third lane! Why? because that’s the joy of having a bike, you are home in half the time plus it somewhat of a rush to nip in and out…haha!
