Barritt On Crime, Economy, New Ministry

June 4, 2011

Leader of the Opposition John Barritt spoke with us yesterday [June 3] about crime, the economy and the creation of the new Ministry.

Speaking on the recent appointment of Minister Michael Weeks as the Minister of Community Development, Mr Barritt said, “When I see things like the recent creation of a new ministry within the Government. I understand all the laudable intentions, but I have to say it’s like the Ministry of Government Estates and Information when it was formed when Premier Cox took over.

“One has to start saying can Government start doing things to show that they are committed to doing more with less. Trying to work the departments we have, rather than creating more ministries and more bureaucracy.”

On the matter of the police budget, Mr Barritt also said “We would not have cut their budget, I don’t see how you expect the Police to do more with less, when you really want them to start doing more with more. So that’s not one area that should have been subject to an arbitrary cut.”
