[Updated] Shortly after 10:00pm this evening [June 27], emergency services responded to an accident in St. David’s. Personnel from both the Bermuda Fire Service and Police Service tended to the rider of a bike, which we understand to be the only vehicle involved.
Bystanders tell us they believe the rider, a male, sustained a leg injury and his injuries did not appear to be life threatening. The ambulance arrived on the scene and transported the injured rider to King Edward Memorial Hospital for treatment. Details are limited at this time, however we will update as they are made available.

A 19 year old male motorcyclist from Warwick sustained injuries to his legs as a result which are not believed to be life threatening”.

They way some people ride (and drive) is almost like they want to kill themselves! I don’t like to see people hurt, or worse, dead, but let’s be real people, there are way too many so called single-vehicle motorcycle “accidents” that would be 100% preventable if the rider was not speeding and/or drinking alcohol. It’s not an accident. Speed-addiction crash maybe? It’s time for us to call it what it is. I think after a collision like this, if it is determined that the rider was speeding and/or drinking, their license should be taken away indefinitely. It’s in the best interest of the rider and their families/friends! Perhaps they could earn it back after taking a few classes…
Don’t forget texting and talking on cell phones. When I pull up behind someone on a bike that is texting or talking on the phone, I lay on my horn – that way they can’t hear the person talking and hopefully hang up the phone! Who knows, maybe I’ve saved a life or two – maybe I’ve just made a lot of noise but I don’t want that fool crashing in front of me and causing harm to the passengers in my car; my family!
Smarten up Bermuda. My thoughts and prayers go out to this young man and his family – thankfully he only has an injured leg. Could have been MUCH worse.
What is going on with the young people on their bikes… I’m not talking specifically about this particular rider. I can’t tell you the number of people on bikes who are riding with one hand and operating their cell phones with the other hand! What can be done about this to put a stop to it? Is this some sort of induction into a ‘stupid’ club? Can a member of the public make a citizens’ arrest?
Unfortunately it isn’t only young people and it isn’t only bikes. Recklessness on the road is a real problem and this island will continue to have more crashes and more fatalities unless people drive and ride responsibly.
