Police Confirm Death Of Bilal Furqan
41-year-old Bilal Furqan passed away today [July 6] after being critically injured in a cliff diving accident this past Saturday.
A Police spokesman said, “The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 41 year old Bilal Furqan who died as a result of a cliff jumping incident that took place at Admiralty House Park.
“The circumstances are that first responders attended an incident that took place at Admiralty House Park beach area at 5:37pm on Saturday, July 2nd. It appears that Mr. Furqan was jumping off the rocks into the water when he was knocked unconscious. As a result he was pulled to the beach by family members and members of the public. .
“An off duty EMT and nurse began to perform CPR and they managed to get Mr. Furqan breathing, however he remained unconscious. The pair continued CPR until the paramedics arrived. Mr. Furqan was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he remained until he was pronounced dead today.
“Police would like to speak with anyone who may have seen this incident and encourage any witnesses to please contact the main police number 295-0011. The Bermuda Police Service extends our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Mr. Furqan.”
Mr Furqan grew up in the Government Gate area, later moving to St David’s with his family. He and his wife Michelle ran a carpentry business together and have four children.

Why didn’t they send him abroard?
Depending on the circumstances people cannot be airlift from Bermuda to Boston unless they can show that they are stable enough to make the air-trip. SOme people need to realise that flying causes stress, influx heart rates, blood levels to spike ect. To be airlift is so dangerous at ICU level. If he showed signs of better better maybe by a certain percentage, than he may or could have withstand the air lift. But to airlift someone from ICU to overseas, may just cause instand death, something that can be avoidable.
Indeed very tragic.. My thoughts are with his family.
I really feel for his wife and children. It must have been horrendous to watch all this unfold…and to think it all started out as just a fun day at the beach. This is simply tragic. I pray that his loved ones find peace and strength in the days, weeks, months and years ahead.

My sincerest condolences to Michelle and all of the Furqan Family. I rarely had the fortune to see Bilal but whenever I did, he was always kind, respectful, and filled with positive thoughs and energy. We need more role models like him on this tiny island. Bilal will be missed by all…even those of us that only had the priveledge of seeing him on the odd occassion. To those of you reading this message that never had the opportunity to meet him, I can assure you that you really missed out on meeting one of Bermuda’s…no the Earths finest. I never had the good fortune to get to know his children but I trust that with Bilal’s help and guidance as a father and with the love and direction they will continue to get from Michelle, they too will grow up to be strong, spriritual, and fine young men and women. Michelle, the class of ’85 is here for you. We shall respect your families space …but know that if you need us we are just a phone call away. Love always…from the Class of 85
Words escape me having hear the horrible news of Bilal. Michelle and the entire Furquan be comforted in the thought Bilal was a child of GOD. His father has called him home for reasons we can not beging to understand at this time. Anyone that knew Bilal will have a life long impression stamped in their hearts. He touched everyone he came in contact with and will continute to do so.

I am glad I had the great priveledge to know Bilal personally and speak to him on occasion. The thing i will remember most is everytime we met we would shake hands, embrace in a hug, and he would always say, “Blessings my brother, God’s grace and peace upon you and your family and your household.”
He loved to sign for the lord which we all enjoyed hearing him and watching him perform, he would always jazz up the song during worship time and enjoyed singing reggae versions of christian songs.
Forever he will be remembered, and to his family..Michelle i know you will stay strong, William, God is going to reveal a strong purpose in your life with your family.

My condolences to Farad and Family
Although I didn’t have the pleasure of meeting this gentleman, after reading the posts and all the support given by the posters, it re-affirms that Bermuda is a small community and every tragedy is felt amongst the hearts of all. Keep the spirit alive Bermuda and show this family that despite the negative news that surrounds us, we still find a way to show the love that is buried in our cores.
RIP Mr. Furquan and I pray for strength to be blessed onto his family.
I did not know Mr. Furquan or his family but am moved by the heartfelt expressions noted here. Prayers from my family to yours Mrs. Furquan as you find the strength to go on and raise your children in the way God, and you and your husband intended. Pain you feel now I know but find comfort that your husband is in a better place and that God has a divine plan for the lives of you and your children. Just got the news. So very, very sad.
My heart and prayers go out to Michelle, the children and his extended family.
He was a true example of a Godly man and our community is diminished by his loss. I pray more of our young men are inspired by his life and his love and care for his wife and children.
It is at times like these when I strggle to give thanks – for his life,yes; for his passing and the manner if it, not so easy.
However, I know there IS a blessing here even if I cannot see it now.

Met Bilal many years ago when he was working construction for another company .I was in school working construction for the summer he was a very spirtual person and a great guy always talking about the bible and we had some great talks on a lot of subjects a lot on religion ,philosophy and the world. He was a really nice guy to work with as brief as our time was togeether RIP ,and respects to the family ,.Prob one of the nicest guys I ever met in such a hard work environment like construction.
lets all learn a lesson from this, and not play games with our life, risking losing it, all just to show off or have fun.
I grew up around people who jumped like that. I never jumped. I loved my life too much. I am glad I never gave in to peer pressure.
I was always told not to jump like that because you could die. You could break bones, or your neck or back.
I hope nobody else teaches their kids to potentially kill themselves. I hope all people out there get common sense and do not throw their life away like this. It disgusts me that parents teach their children how to do these things. I would never dare do that with my children.

One of the joys of my childhood was jumping off #1 and #2 down at “Masters” ( I was too chicken to jump off #3). My parents knew nothing of it. It was part of the unappreciated-at-the-time wonder of growing up in Bermuda.
Rather than trying to stop people from jumping – because it won’t happen and policing it becomes yet another issue – I would rather encourage them to check the tides and not jump in low tide and also ensure they know how to shallow dive.
There are few healthy ways for boys to assert their manhood here. “Chicken” races, speeding on bikes, fights, and now guns and gangs have become an integral, very unhealthy, part of the ‘coming-of-age’ process. Cliff diving, though potentially dangerous, is much safer (and in my opinion, more fun) than the alternatives.
I’m surprised we haven’t developed our own competition in this area

Very helpful post there for grieving family and friends to read. Nothing like that one person who has to say “I told you so”.
Every single day we encounter risks just by waking up and getting out of bed. “Shouldn’t have climbed that ladder to replace that lightbulb”, “shouldn’t have gone to get that fish sandwich you know it is dangerous up there”, shouldn’t have crossed that road you know cars drive on it”, “WHy did you go on that trip you know planes can fall out of the sky”
Life is a risk, but he lived it. And if anything his children and family shared in an amazing last day with him, together as a family, playing, loving, and sharing time. You can say maybe God would think what he was doing was risky, I think God would be happy that this man lived and took advantage of every precious moment given to him until his time was up.
So ‘Why’, you live in your safe box, and I hope you look back on your with pride that you made it through without a scratch. I prefer to live with the scratches to prove I was really there.

Some of his family members are my neighbors.From what I have heard and learned about him in recent days,I wished i’d known him better.
