Man Charged In $10 Million Drug/Ammo Case
This morning [July 25] in Magistrates Court, 46-year-old Victor Alan Roberts was charged in connection with the $10 million dollars worth of drugs and 200 rounds of ammunition seized by the police last week.
He was charged with conspiring with others not before the Court to import diamorphine [heroin], conspiring with others not before the Court to import cocaine, conspiring with others not before the Court to import cannabis, conspiring with others not before the Court to import cannabis resin, and two counts of conspiring with others not before the Court to import ammunition – said to be 100 9mm rounds and 100 40mm rounds.
The offence were alleged to have taken place between a date unknown and the 17th of July, 2011. Mr Roberts was not required to enter a plea, as the matter must be heard in Supreme Court. He was denied bail, and remanded in custody pending a further appearance.
After the seizure – which took place in Warwick [pictured] on Wednesday July 20th – Police said, “Early indications are that the drug and ammunition seized in this case is approximately: 114 kilos of cannabis [251lbs], 1.5 kilos of heroin [3.3lbs], 1 kilo of cocaine [2.2lbs], 50 grams of hash, and four boxes of live ammunition [200 rounds]. The estimated value of the drugs is in excess of $10 million.”

Just to help you out a bit. They state that the vaule of the drugs was $10 million (Although police overstate the value all the time using an outdated system….but that’s another topic entirely) That’s how much they state he would make selling them, he did not pay that much for the drugs. He paid significantly less than that, hence why people import drugs in the first place. I can guarantee that the drugs were bought wholesale for less than $1 million. which is a lot easier to smuggle than $10 million. And with that much drugs, I can also guarantee that there were definitley others invested in this too. A few guys probably split the cost of the shipment between them.

And why would you bring up the fact that the person in the current case is white (if, indeed, he is)? Is this just race-baiting on your part, or do you have a legitimate point?

@ Onion Soup: Whether or not we like it, the common perception is that only black folks are the perpetrators of all the drug and gun crime in Bermuda. The black community is aware that white folks also are engaged in these illegal activities, but they are so seldom caught that their activities almost take on the cloak of urban legend. So we feel vindicated when finally one gets arrested. I cannot speak for the white community.

the sad part about the race comments from this story is just that it seems the fact that the guy is white is more important then the drugs/ammo to some, noted by you feeling “vindicated” about one getting arrested, not safer because all thei stuff is taken off the street.
Frankly its a bit of a scare to our realities in bermuda when people are happy someone got arrested simply because he is white.

Let me be quite clear. I am very glad the drugs and ammo are now out of circulation,but since I am pretty sure that what is caught is only about 10% of what is out there, I am not about to jump over the moon about it.
I applaud the police for stopping this particular shipment, but the question arises, how many time before has this person and his un-named henchmen brought in drugs and guns/ammo? Generally, in these type of cases, the police have been watching the person for some time, trying to catch them in an error. It would be very unusual for the police to be able to make such a bust on a first time criminal.
“Vindication” comes when one has said something over and over and not been believed. I think you misunderstand if you think people are “happy someone got arrested simply because he is white.” I am happy that not just black people are getting arrested, because it is not just black people who are committing these crimes. It is true that the cases that are publicized are all black males, but I don’t believe for a minute that only black males have guns. And I know for a fact that black people are not the only ones using and/or importing drugs. The problem has been that the white ones seldom get arrested. For us, it looks like just another instance of institutionalized racism.
Personally, I am beyond saddened by what is happening in our community. Black on black violence is a world-wide phenomenon where-ever there are large black communities. The psychological and sociological reasons for this are myriad and can be debated ad infinitum, but do not bring about peace.
I think it is important for us to have these conversations, as long as it can be done without acrimony. The more we talk, and take the time to correct assumptions, the better we get to understand one another.
Just glad this one was caught, drugs kill and ppl with guns kill. I think of the children that are growing up, you dont need this crap out there.

My understanding of the phrase “conspiring with others not before the Court” is that the investigation into those allegedly involved with Roberts in this drugs/guns haul are either still being investigated or are as yet unknown (assuming that he alone could not have acquired and shipped all of the drugs and guns without the knowledge and assistance of others, local or otherwise).

These are things that make me laugh about us Bermudian’s. If it was a murder that you witnessed you would have never mentioned the name of the culprits, the area, the vehicle etc. But because one has something against some one it makes it alright to mention there business name etc. This is why in my eyes some bermudians are always rady to Chat somebody’s business until it turns on them. I don’t condone the situation in which has taken place but it surely does not put in a position to talk about something that I am not familar with until the case goes to court. I think it is naive to believe that there are any single ‘Mr Biggs’ involved in the drug importation business in Bda.. hell , this isn’t some James Bond movie plot with a Kananga controlling his sole plot of this speck of a rock.
It’s a well known fact that for a l o n g time a few guys will hatch a plan and then get many smaller investors on board. ‘Invest 10G now and I’ll turn it into 50G for you in a few months.’ is the promise made to the greedy and gullible.

But when a black Bermudian is charged/convicted with crimes and reported on Bernews, I don’t see whites celebrating the fact that a black Bermudian was locked up. I am happy when any criminal that is polluting our country and citizens with their products are taken off the streets. BERNEWS, I have a question. Is the story correct that there were 100 rounds of 40 mm ammo with the shipment? Is that a typo or incorrect statement? This size of ammo is huge, sort of like grenade size, as I’ve seen from a little Internet research. If true, it would beg the question what someone was going to do with such destructive ammunition.
Was it supposed to read .40 caliber ammo? This would be an entirely different story.

We never saw the shipment, however that’s what they said in court…40mm. Just checked the other media and they report same as us, so its highly, highly doubtful we all made the same error.

Bernews – can you please do some investigative journalism? Word on the street is that Blumber was released on $5m bail, put up by none other than one of our construction companies quite close to our government officials. Is this true?
We have no up-to-date official confirmation of where he is at this present time, but he was outright denied bail at his first hearing. If he reappeared in Court and got bail, the chance of all five media outlets missing it is very low, and its a big case so the fact he got bail would be definitely be reported. He is due to reappear in Court this Monday [August 8] so that will shed light on it.

Can someone please give an update on this case. This guy was suppose to go back to court on aug 8. I find it hard to believe that nobody has any info about this. $10 million dollar bust and it all just disappears. Either this guy is now rolling over on alot of other people that were involved or he was bailed out like another person heard and he took off, can someone clarify what is going on here..
