St George’s Stefan Kelly Wins Cup Match MVP
St. George’s Cricket Club opening bowler Stefan Kelly was named the 2011 Annual Cup Match Classic MVP following his team’s 2 wicket victory over the Somerset Cricket Club at the Wellington Oval yesterday [July 29].
Kelly finished with overall bowling figures of 33.3 overs, 3 maidens, 99 runs and took 10 wickets. Kelly had figures of 9.3-0-26-4 in the first innings and with St. George’s missing Justin Pitcher for the second inning due to a knee injury Kelly returned figures of 24.-3-73-6.
Kelly also batted twice in the classic and was never out, he was not out without scoring in the first inning and then he was one not out when Lionel Cann scored the winning runs. Kelly’s overall bowling figures for the Cup Match Classic now stand at 86.1-6-328-18.
After a thrilling afternoon of cricket which saw fans hang onto every play, St. George’s Cricket Club broke the four year streak of draws to win the coveted Cup Match trophy. For all our Cup Match coverage click here.
