Football: Bermuda U/17 Defeat Antigua 5-0
[Updated] Bermuda opened their bid to advance in the U/17 Women’s World Cup with a resounding 5 – 0 win over Antigua & Barbuda in the Bahamas this evening [Aug.16].
Precious Smith [pictured/file photo] was the stand out, scoring all five goals for Bermuda in 19 minutes.
The first-half, Bermuda had 13 shots on goal compared to Antigua and Barbuda with one, and still the teams remained scoreless at half-time. Bermuda’s first goal came in the 51st minute, Precious Smith doubled the lead in the 62nd minute.
She completed her hat-trick with a strike on the 67th minute, one minute later she scored Bermuda’s fourth and then she closed out the scoring fifth coming in the 70th minute.
Meanwhile, Bermuda made three substitutions in the second-half. In the 50th minute of play Keunna Dill came on for Jasmine Simmons. The second substitution was made minutes later, Niambia Russell on for Sarai Paul and Kali Leshore on for Rayni Maybury.
The Bermuda team consists of: Jaeda Smith, Precious Smith. Sierra Fisher, Tajam’es Branch, Precious Cooper, Tai Sampson, K’Shela Burch Waldron, Tiara Smith, Teara Thomas, Sharri Weldon, Jasmine Spence, Niambi Russell, Sarai Paul, Kali Lespere, Jasmine Simons, Natasha Trott, Rayni Maybury, and Kuenna Dill.
Bermuda will play their their second and final game against the host country Bahamas on Thursday August 18th, with the winner going on to the next round of the competition. Bahamas played Antigua and Barbuda on Sunday, and thrashed them 10-nil.
