Photos: One Bermuda Alliance Election Night
Last night [Sept.10] hundreds of people made their way to the Fairmont Southampton, to participate in the One Bermuda Alliance’s [OBA] first Leadership Election. With a scheduled 7.30pm start, the proceedings started later then expected, and the final results were announced at approximately 12.30am.
Almost 700 people voted in the election, with Senator Craig Cannonier being selected the new Opposition Leader in a tight race which saw him receive 50.44% of the vote over Shadow Minister of Finance Bob Richards. Senator Michael Dunkley won the Deputy Leader position with 74.74% of the vote over veteran MP Trevor Moniz, while Michael Branco and Jeanne Atherden were selected as Deputy Chairs.

I am extremely happy to see so many Bermudians of all races getting together to exercise their right to participate in our democracy. I trust that the One Bermuda Alliance will be the people’s voice (ALL THE PEOPLE of Bermuda – not just the racial majority, not just the wealthy minority) in setting a new course for our troubled economy and society.
If you are on this site commenting (complaining) without getting involved, then YOU are part of the problem. If you have time to post, MAKE TIME to participate in making Bermuda better, stronger and truer to who we are as a people. Get involved and thank you to all the members of the OBA for giving Bermuda a choice in determining our future!

Talkin bout poppin bottles, livin large on the celebrity scene
Stressin how Platinum and real she is
She was the realest before she got into showbiz
Soon the platinum period hit da skids
She knew her multitude of sins couldn’t be hid
The lights came up and with the quickness, she became like a dove
No more glitz, glamor, festivals, or feel the love
I wanted to be committed, but so many gangstas had did it
That she’s just not the same, lettin all these ballers hit it
I can’t take her back, there’s nothing more to see

It was a great night where me and my fellow BERMUDIANS (regardless of race or color) came together to vote for these vital positions in the One Bermuda Alliance. May it be the first of many OBA functions!
Just an observation Bernews – Mr. Cannonier cannot be the leader of the Opposition under our system of Government. He can be the leader of the One Bermuda Alliance. It puzzles me how we distort the system of Government : PLP votes for the Premier, should never happen under our system of government that selection should be done by the sitting members of Parliament and he who commands the majority in the house gets the job. So hypothetically if Kim Swan was able to command the support of 20 members of the house and he goes to the Governor evidencing such support he will be sworn in as Premier.
PLP does NOT vote for the Premier.
PLP votes for leader of the PLP. Same as OBA votes for leader of the OBA.
Whichever Party wins or sits in government then typically places their leader as the Premier. But technically the Premier is the person who commands the support of the majority of the House of Assembly. That usually works out to be the person in charge of the winning Party.
OBA you just lost my vote! You had it right up until you elected Mr. Cannonier. We don’t need another egotistical leader, Dr. Brown was bad enough. Guess I will be siding with BAD and not voting at all!! After all my choices are; incinerator or dump… And I don’t want to see the Island go to either!
The only problem I have with Craig Cannonier becoming leader of the opposition, is that John Barritt will now resign in order for Mr. Cannonier to sit in the House. John is a good, honest and intelligent guy (not to say that Mr. Cannonier isn’t) and his level head will be sorely missed.

IF ELECTED AS THE NEW GOVERNMENT, THEY THE OBA/UBP WILL CHANGE TOO…THEY WILL BECOME ARROGANT SUIT WEARING MEN.
THE PICKET FENCE SUPPORTERS WILL GET MAD AT THE OBA SOONER RATHER THAN LATER IF THEY DON’T WIN THE NEXT ELECTION TO SECURE AND CONTINUE THEIR PONZI SCEME OF LIFE.

My only concern in looking at the audience is the lack of a certain group and the overwhelming attendance of another. Does the OBA really represent Bermuda?
The people who showed up are those who bothered to. The ones who didn’t are the ones who prefer to sit and do nothing cuz they too facking lazy. You figure it out. I ain’t gonna say it.
