Rugby: 2011 Sandy’s Tournament Results

mrugby110917The Bermuda Rugby Football Union’s season opened at the Warwick Academy School Field with the 2011 Sandy’s Tournament yesterday [Sept.17].

In Ladies action, Nikki Jones scored a Try to give the Renegades a 1 – 0 win over the Mariners, while Amber Karaz and Katie Wright scored a Try each to help Teachers defeat the Police 2 – 0.

The match between the Mariners and Police ended scoreless 0 – 0, while Jones scored her second Try of the tournament as the renegades defeated the Teachers 1 – 0.

The final two Ladies matches both ended scoreless as Police and Renegades played to a scoreless draw and the match between the Mariners and Teachers finished 0 – 0.

In Men’s action, the Mariners defeated the Renegades 12 – 0, Kris Furbert scored two Try’s while Tim Peplow kicked one Coversion for the Marinares, while Police gave up a last minute Try and Conversion in their 7 – 6 loss to Teachers.

Michael Kane kicked two Penalties for Police, but Scottie Cobon went over for a Try in the final minute for Teachers and when Dave Porter kicked the Conversion the referee blew the final whistle.

David Roque went over for a Try, while Peplow kicked a Conversion as the Mariners defeated the Police 7 – 0, while the teachers got 2 Try’s from Simons, and single try’s from Chris Naylor, Dave Porter and Henry Patterson as they defeated the Renegades 22 – 7, Simmons added a Conversion, while Neil McGuinnes scored the lone try for the Renegades and Ian Henderson kicked the Conversion.

Neville Zuill scored four Try’s and Michael Kane kicked four Conversions as the Police defeated the Renegades 28 – 12, Trevor Boyce scored two Try’s for Renegades, while Henderson kicked a Conversion in the defeat.

In the final match of the day the Mariners defeated the Teachers 13 – 7, Dustin Archibald scored a Try for the Mariners who also had Peplow kick a Conversion and a Penalty, while Andrea Landy scored a Try for the Teachers, with Simmons kicking a Conversion.

    It is Sandys’ Tournament, not Sandy’s Tournament. The name of the Club is Sandys Boat Club, not the boat club of Sandy
