British MP To Address PLP Banquet

The special guest speaker at the Progressive Labour Party’s upcoming  44th Annual Conference Banquet will be UK Labour MP David Lammy [pictured].

A rising star in British politics, MP Lammy, 39, has represented Tottenham in the House of Commons since 2000.

From 2000-2003, he was the youngest MP in the House.

In the previous Labour Government, he served as a Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills, he then rose to Minister of State, was appointed to the Privy Council, and, finally, as Minister of Higher Education.

In 2010 there were suggestions that Mr. Lammy might stand for election as Mayor of London in 2012.

But Mr. Lammy pledged his support to former Mayor Ken Livingstone’s bid to become the Labour candidate, declaring him “London’s once and future Mayor. Mr. Lammy went on to become Mr. Livingstone campaign chairman.

The event kicks off on Saturday, October 29th with cocktails from 6:00-7:00 pm followed by dinner at 7:30 pm.
