Police Launch Attempted Murder Investigation
[Updated] Police said they have launched an investigation into last night’s shooting, which left a 21-year-old man in the Intensive Care Unit, where he remains listed as stable as of 4pm this afternoon.
A police spokesperson said, “At about 8:20pm on Monday, October 24th 2011, police officers attended a report of a shooting that occurred on Middle Road, Warwick just east of the junction of Khyber Pass.”
“Police were able to ascertain that the victim, a 21 year old male, was riding west on a motorcycle with a pillion passenger, a 20 year old male, when two suspects travelling on a motorcycle rode up alongside of the victim and discharged a firearm several times.”
“The victim received gunshot wounds and was conveyed to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and is being treated in the Intensive Care Unit. The Bermuda Police Service is treating this firearm incident as an attempted murder.”
“The Bermuda Police Service is appealing for witnesses to this incident. The Serious Crime Unit is seeking information from the public on possible suspects – specifically information on any persons, dressed in all dark clothing, seen riding a motorcycle in the area of St. Mary’s Road, Longford Road, Middle Road, Warwick – acting suspiciously or travelling at high speeds around 8pm Monday night.”
“Police are aware that there were several commuters travelling on Middle Road, Warwick around the time of the incident. Investigators are asking that these commuters come forward and make contact with the investigative team. Any bit of information may be valuable to the investigators.”
Acting Superintendent Sean Field-Lament, officer in charge of Serious Crime stated, “The Bermuda Police Service wants to reassure the general public that we are committed to bringing these perpetrators to justice. While it is early in the investigation we are treating it as gang related.’
“We are pursuing solid lines of investigation including reviewing CCTV footage. I would encourage members of the public to review their own CCTV footage and report any suspicious activity. It is vital that the community unites and persons with information pertinent to these crimes come forward.”
“The investigative team is being headed by Acting Detective Inspector Jason Smith, and he can be contacted at (441) 247-1218. Alternatively, members of the public can leave information anonymously on the independent Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477.”
So the Police say they are launching an investigation in to an incident of attempted murder? Man….I gotta give up this stuff from MOB…………………
Who comes up with this stuff.
Breaking News……..two men were assaulted by passing cyclist whilst throwing spent ammunition dug up from Wariwck Camp.
Police appeal for anyone who can find sand in their sink……….
Don’t you usually need a suspect to launch an attempted murder investigation?
No…an “attempt” to murder (however unsuccessful) was made by one person upon another. However, if the person who was shot upon should circum to their injury, then it would be murder.
That should be ‘succumb’ and not ‘circum.’ Just saying…
WOW!!!!! US Observer……never knew that. Wonder what they would charge the ‘attempter’ with if it was a ride-by pepper spray job.
Just working out the bugs?………………………………………………
No…attempted assult and battery. Terry, you must do your homework.
You beter look up your laws Observer…………….
Attempted assault? Never heard of that one. Of course other offences may have been committed like threatning behavior but that just cicvil stuff unless witnessed by a Police Officer.
My response was due to the Bernews headlines. Read it. Dah…………………………
What else could it be. A food fight?
ok….will someone get their facts straight!! Bernews says he is stable….RG says he is in critical condition and the BDA Sun says he is fighting for his life??? Mmmm….
Then ask the RG and the Berumda Sun. Bernooze goes by what they get usually from a GOVERNMENT SAUCE……………….jingus………………or just go down and ask the people/s comming and going. Simple……………………
Well wouldn’t critical condition and fighting for his life mean the same thing? Understood..
Love and prayers to the family – they are all suffering right now – a young member of their family is fighting a fight none of you want to fight – and they need our support
You know what is funny? The ambulence went past 1st then the fire truck and like 5 minutes later the police.
that is the correct priority order – treat the injured, then investigate the crime. It would have been immediately obvious that the perpetrator(s) had fled the scene, so maybe the cops were scouring the area for them.
