Jermal Woolridge Wins Bronze Medal In Turkey

Jermal Woolridge won Bermuda’s first medal at the World Wushu Championships in Turkey by earning a bronze in men’s +90kg Division.

Woolridge had victories over opponents from Jordan and Germany to reach the Semi-Finals where he went down to his opponent from China 2 – 0 to settle for the Bronze Medal. This is the first time that Bermuda has won a medal in the Championships.

Woolridge prepared for the competition at Extreme Couture MMA Gym in Ontario, Canada for 3 weeks prior to the competition.

Other members of the Bermuda Wushu team also produced some solid performances.Garon Wilkinson placed 80th out of 103 competitors in Chang Quan (long fist forms), he also served as Head Coach for the team.

Sentwali Woolridge faced an opponent from Armenia and went down 2 – 0 in the male 70kg Division. Female fighter Talia Iris fought Natacha Bounet from France and lost 2 – 0 in a valiant effort.
