Barbadians Marking Independence Anniversary
The Barbados Association of Bermuda is marking this month’s 45th anniversary of Bajan Independence with a gala dinner and dance at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess on November 26 among other observances.
Barbados’ Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs Christopher Sinckler [pictured] will be the featured speaker at the black-tie event.
Barbados became an Independent state and Commonwealth realm in November, 1966, retaining the Queen as Head of State.
One of the Caribbean’s leading tourist destinations and also one of the most economically developed islands in the region, several hundred Barbadians are estimated to live here — either as spouses of Bermudians or holding down jobs in the local economy.
While the Fairmont Hamilton gala is the highlight of the 45th anniversary celebrations, other events the Barbados Association of Bermuda is hosting this month include the ”Bajan Men Can Cook” cook-off at Cathedral Hall on Nov. 19 at 6:00 pm, service at First Church of God, North Shore Road on November 20 at 11:00 am and a Cultural Night at the Police Sport Club in Prospect on November 30 — Barbados’ actual Independence Day — at 6:30 pm.
Tickets for the Princess Independence dinner are $100 for general admission, $150 for patrons.
Tickets for these events can be bought from any member of the Barbados Association of Bermuda executive, Ja Nauzi Salon at 63 King Street, Roxy’s Fashion in the Emporium Building at 69 Front Street or by calling 338-1275.
