Day #3: 2011 World Rugby Classic Results
The inclement weather conditions did not stop the third day of play at the 2011 Bermuda World Rugby Classic last night [Nov.10] with Bermuda making their first appearance in the Classic, walking away with a 24 – 7 win over the Montreal Irish.
In the Plate Semi-Final the United States bested Italy 27 – 10, while in the Classic Semi-Final the Classic Lions beat New Zealand 7 – 0. Play continues today [Nov.11], with gates opening at 3:45pm. At 4:30pm the Classic Springboks take on the Classic Wallabies in the Plate semi-final, while at 5:45pm Classic Pumas play against the Canadian Classics in the Classic semi final.
Bermuda 24 Montreal Irish 7
In a Tour Friendly, Bermuda got Try’s from Dan Cole, Mike Kane, Dave Porter and Paul Davis as they defeated the Montreal Irish 24 -7. Tim Peplow kicked two Conversions for Bermuda, while José Reznick scored a Try for the Irish, Trevor Lane added a Conversion and a Penalty.
Plate Semi-Final: United States 28 Italy 10
The United States jumped out to an early lead when Louis Tulio scored a Try and kicked his own Conversion as they took a 7 – 0 lead. Italy pulled the score within two when Simona Martini scored a Try. Simon Dodge extended the lead to 12 – 5 and when he went over and Sammy Gonzales kicked the Conversion it made the score 14 – 5.
Mike Kane went over for Try for Italy and when the Conversion was missed it left the score at 14 – 10, minutes later Mike Harvey went over for a Try for the United States and when Gonzales kicked the Conversion it gave them a 21 – 10 lead, Leon Neville scored the last Try for the United States with Gonzales kicking the Conversion to make the final score 28 – 10.
Classic Semi-Final: Classic Lions 7 New Zealand 0
In the nightcap, the Classic Lions and New Zealand battled the conditions, the teams went to the half time break with a point on the scoreboard, the all-important Try came in the second half when Andy Craig went over for the Classic Lions and Andrew Gommersall kicked the Conversion giving them a 7 – 0 lead, New Zealand attempted to get themselves back into the game but they just could not break down the Classic Lions as they advanced to the Finals.
