CedarBridge Students Raise $2,500
Big-hearted students at CedarBridge Academy banded together to raise funds for a fellow student battling leukemia yesterday [Nov.30]
CedarBridge’s Mikaela O’Brien, Tracey Trott, Roshanda Caines and Leroyce Mills:
More than $2,500 was raised through a “Grub Day” for Nahge O’Brien, who was diagnosed with leukemia in December, 2010.
He went away to receive treatment including chemotherapy and bone marrow transfer.
Nahge went back to school in September 2011, and seemed to be doing well – however a few weeks ago his cancer returned.
His cousin Mikaela O’Brien — also a student at CedarBridge – said it “came as a shock to us all, because it came back so quickly and so aggressively.”
She said her cousin is “ready to fight through this, and he just needs support not just from everybody, not just his immediate family, we need Bermuda to show we are here for him.”
CedarBridge Staff Roshanda Caines, Leroyce Mills, Tracey Trott & student Mikaela O’Brien discuss fundraising for Nahge O’Brien:
Nahge is in Tennessee at St. Judes Childrens’s Hospital receiving chemotherapy, which he will undergo for a four to five month period. After that he is scheduled to undergo bone marrow treatment at the Boston Childrens’s Hospital.
Saying the staff and student body want to do whatever they can to support him, they put together the recent Grub Day, and have other activities scheduled in the future.
If the public would like to support young Nahge, they can make donations at the Butterfield Bank, Sweet Sac Bakery in St George’s, the People’s Market at CedarBridge on Saturday or by contacting the school.
Update: The Bank of Butterfield account number is 2005-006-01533-06200
Well done students. Giving, kindness and compassion for your fellow student are lessons that will last longer than anything that you learn in a text book.
Wishing this young man a full recovery.
I am so proud of the students and staff of Cedarbridge. Job well done. The press from Cedarbridge has been so positive of late, it makes the whole island feel proud. Keep up the good work and continue to work for each other, you are talking care of your own. that is a good lesson to learn as teenagers, it will come in handy as you get older.
Can someone please tell me what the butterfield account number is so I can help support o’brian.
We just added it to article above…
i would like to be the first to say Thank You to Cedarbridge both staff and students for doing a tremendous job. As Mikaela said “it came to us as a total shock to see his leukemia to returne so quickly” and its also painful to see our loved one @ such a younger tender age suffer from a great illness such as this. We would be greatful if the community can help our family in getting Nahge the medical treatment that is needed for a speedy recovery.
Naghe I love you…Your a fighter you beat this once you can do it again. Keep the faith remember its in Gods Hands….We can do all things thru christ which strengthens us. Stay Strong cant wait to see you.
Your Big Cuz
