Over 100 People Attend Church Lunch
Thanks to the efforts of Bermuda CableVision and The Hamilton Seventh Day Adventist Church, a special Christmas Day luncheon for families in need was held today [Dec.25].
The lunch was held at the Church’s King Street hall, and organisers said they served approximately 110 people over the course of the afternoon.
Dozens of volunteers turned up and worked hard all morning to prepare the meal, which featured a traditional Christmas menu with turkey, macaroni & cheese, rice, a variety of vegetables, bread rolls, dessert and more.
The hall was decorated for the holidays, with the tables set with festive Christmas coloured tablecloths, plates, napkins, and a candy cane at each place setting.
There was a decorated Christmas tree on the stage, surrounded by presents which were given away to attendees. In addition, there were Christmas gift bags for all the children, which contained crayons, toys, candy and more.
There was live entertainment during the luncheon, with singers performing traditional Christmas songs. The organizers also provided transportation, with seniors being picked up and transported to the lunch. Attendees included regular patrons of the Church’s meal program, senior citizens, and families in need.
One gentleman we spoke with arrived early to help set up the luncheon, and then stayed to enjoy Christmas dinner. He said he presently had nowhere to live and his path in life had been a “long one”, however he hoped things would turn around for him soon. He said he has relied on the Church for assistance before, and decided to attend early to offer his help as he believed in giving as well as receiving.
Speaking with some of the volunteers after the lunch finished, they all said it went well, and expressed pleasure over how the community came together to make the Christmas luncheon happen. They said volunteers came from both the Church as well as the wider community, and they all worked together with energy and enthusiasm.

Well done Bermuda!
Congrats to SDA, Cablevision, and all of us who have helped those in need this season, in some way or the other. May we now reflect on how we shall move into a better Bermuda for 2012.
Merry Christmas to all, and a Happy New Year!
I work with one of the ladies from the church who helped organize this. She was really excited as she planned the day’s festivities and one of the things she insisted on was that everything be classy and well-presented. Looking at the table settings etc., I can see that it was indeed set up very nicely. I’m sure that she and the other volunteers are very happy that it was a success.
I know that Bermudians like to give and many give year round, but for some reason it seems like this year was very special. There was just so much provided for those in need this year and so many people so anxious to help others. Maybe it’s the recession thing, but those with a little more seem extra grateful this year and willing even more so to help others. I think many of us have come to realize that ‘there but by the grace of God go I’ and that is very humbling. It makes you want to help those who are less fortunate. I only hope this generous and compassionate spirit carries on into 2012.
Just a question where do all these people in need eat on a weekly or daily basis ?
