January 27, 2012

The Minister of Business Development and Tourism Wayne Furbert was in Orlando, Fl. yesterday [Jan.26] to tee up awareness for Bermuda’s golf product at the 2012 PGA Merchandise Show, with a mission to drive business to the destination.

The PGA Merchandise Show attracts 1,000-plus vendors representing every business sector of golf from market leaders to start-up companies and golf industry leaders.

Minister Furbert was joined in Orlando by Andrew Brooks, Director of Golf at the Port Royal Golf Course, Paul Adams, Director of Golf Operations at Rosewood Tucker’s Point Club and Darron Swan, Director of Golf at Newstead Belmont Hills.

Minister Furbert said, “This show is a rare opportunity to get in front of some of the most influential people in the world of golf. The golf industry is an ever-important market to Bermuda and our partnership with the PGA has helped further our reputation as a golf destination and also brings top-notch talent from around the world to Bermuda.”

During the show, Minister Furbert and the Bermuda delegation held meetings with the PGA to discuss plans for the 2012 Grand Slam taking place again this year at Port Royal Golf Course, October 22-24, 2012.

The Bermuda Department of Tourism (BDOT) also partnered with Golf Business Network to host a private evening reception.

The event served as a networking opportunity where golf industry leaders from around the world learned about Bermuda’s championship courses and leading golf offerings, some of which include Port Royal’s Grand Slam & Golf Around Getaway program and the new “Tee for Free” package, a promotion granting two free rounds of golf plus a $100 spa credit when booking a minimum of four-nights at participating hotels between February 6 – February 17, 2012.

Prize-trip giveaways were also announced during the reception.
