Video: 2012 Regiment Falling Plate Contest
One of the highlights of the Bermuda Regiment’s annual recruit camp that is now coming to an end at Warwick Camp is the annual Falling Plate competition, which was held yesterday [Jan.27]
This year the best recruit team set a precedent in that the four soldier team was made up of two men and two women. These four outshot all the other recruits.
They were W/Pte Ieysha Berkeley, W/Pte Tonya Smith-Zuill, Pte John Patton and Pte Antoine Richards. All four were from No 8 Platoon, No 5 Section.
The Falling Plate competition involves the team running about 75 metres, lying down, and then firing at ten 12″ x 12″ metal plates that are 100 yards away. The first team with all plates down wins.
If all plates are not knocked down, it’s the team with the most plates down. Each of the four riflemen gets 5 rounds to shoot at the ten plates.
The Falling Plate shoot is close to operational shooting in that the shooter is winded, is shooting against time limits, and is under the duress of competition.
There were six guest teams from Government House [HE Sir Richard Gozney, Captain Powell ADC, and the Government House driver Colour/Sergeant Whorms]; Bermuda Customs; Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service; Bermuda Police Service; Bermuda Cadet Corps; and a scratch team from the defence Board.
Proud of you Ieysha! Keep up the good work!
Thank you!!
Well Done Bermuda Regiment, Keep up the great work!!
Proud of my fellow Bermudians for giving back.
Damn that brings back some memories.
My section won the Falling Plate Comp. back when I was in training camp. Eight Platoon too!! (25 years ago mind you)
ya rite…..looks like Larry B still has access the other guys don’t deserve….and Hats off to GI Jane……good work GI Jane!
Yes I also won the falling plate competition some twenty – eight years ago with Eight platoon under Lt William Madieros We had a great bunch of guys, plenty of memories.
Well done 2012 Regiment boot camp recruits.
They need to make this into a sporting event…
looks like they enjoyed it…..the cheering and enthusiasm doesn’t appear to be forced or coerced under threat of imprisonment.
BRAVO !!!
I did not like the regiment, but my shooting was great!!!! My grouping after twenty rounds was within 3 inches!!! 18 years ago
Well done to all the Regiment Recruits this year. Ieysha you did very well and proved you can handle all test. In speaking with several young persons who entered 2012 Regiment camp this weekend, all were positive and had a great time. It seemed to surpass their expectations after hearing the negative publicity from those opposed to conscription.
If they were forced to enter, they certainly enjoyed the two week training camp. Keep it up young people and do not let the negative speakers deter you from fostering a great future and learning positive skills.
