Tourist Injured After Collision With Truck

[Updated] An area along Mangrove Bay Road in Sandys is presently blocked off, following an accident involving a female tourist on a rental cycle and a truck this afternoon [Apr.9].

A police spokesperson said, “Around 12 noon on Monday April 9th, police responded to a report of a collision between a truck and a livery cycle.

“It appears that the vehicles were travelling along Mangrove Bay Road in Sandys when they collided. The rider, a visitor to the island, was injured and conveyed to KEMH via ambulance for treatment.

“Inquiries into this incident are underway. The scene of the collision was closed off from traffic for further forensic examination. It is anticipated to re-open shortly.”

Update 2.06pm: The road has re-opened to traffic. The bike could be seen wedged under the front wheel of a truck, with unofficial reports indicating the visitor sustained serious injuries to her leg[s].

    Just sayin…this is not what was being reported on BB and I had common sense to not send it out to my contacts like everybody else had sent me. Please be careful on what u send out people. On another note…I am really glad that the lady is much better than what was stated yesterday.

    Dang rental agencies!!! They really need to stress the importance of staying in the left lane and the yreally need to install a proper road safety adn bike test for these would be motorists.
