Fire Damages Border Lane North Home

The Bermuda Fire Service responded to a report of a house fire at approximately 2:40am on Sunday [May 20] in the Border Lane North, Pembroke area.

They found a two storey house on fire, and two firefighters in breathing apparatus went into the building and brought the fire under control. A bedroom sustained fire damage while the rest of the building suffered smoke, heat and structural damage.

No injuries were reported as no one appeared to be in the home at the time of the blaze. The cause of the fire is being investigated and arson has not been ruled out.

Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson Lt. Wenda Roberts said, “In the early hours of Sunday morning [May 20th] at approximately 2:40am, Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service received a 911 call reporting a structural fire on Border Lane North, Pembroke.

“Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service responded with 3 appliances and 9 personnel. The first vehicle arrived on scene at 2:47am to find a two storey dwelling fully involved in fire.

“Two firefighters in breathing apparatus made entry to the upper level of the dwelling and quickly brought the fire under control. Although the fire was confined to a bedroom, the house suffered significant structural damage as well as heat and smoke damage to the upper level.

“No one was at home at the time of the fire, and thankfully there were no injuries. The matter is being thoroughly investigated at this time and arson has not been ruled out at this point.”
