UK Travel Agents Experience Bermuda Vacation

May 17, 2012

Sixteen of the UK’s top selling luxury travel agents recently visited Bermuda to take part in an all encompassing familiarization trip of the Island.

The trip, sponsored by the Bermuda Department of Tourism [BDOT], British Airways and the Bermuda Hotel Association spanned over four days last week and showcased all the top hotels on the Island, acquainting these agents with the product and helping them to sell the destination to their customers.

The agents, who represent 15 of the top tour operators and wholesale companies in the UK, are on the frontlines of the industry. Minister Furbert is seen in the photo below with the visiting UK Travel Agents.

During their visit, the travel representatives visited hotels including The Reefs, Tuckers Point, Fairmont Southampton, Fairmont Hamilton Princess and Elbow Beach and learned all there is to know about the facilities and location of the properties in Bermuda.

In between inspections of the properties and hospitality from the hotels, the agents had the opportunity to explore the Island, from the Royal Naval Dock Yard to the town of St Georges.

Minister Furbert is pictured below with Tourism Board Chair Maxwell Burgess, British Airways executives Keith Chuter and Marc James and Tourism Director Billy Griffith.

Of the visit, the Director of Tourism William Griffith said “We organized this trip with our partners at British Airways and Bermuda Hotel Association as part of a strategy to raise awareness and increase leisure travel business from the European market.

“We are delighted to welcome these top luxury travel agents to our island. The best way to sell a product is to see and experience it first hand, and this trip offers the opportunity to sample the best of what Bermuda has to offer.

“We hope that when the agents return to the UK they take with them a piece of the island and it ignites their enthusiasm to sell many holidays to our beautiful Island.”

  1. Watching! says:

Another photo op for our minister as this is nothing new. What will be interesting, is to see if any one actually delivers. I bet none!

What annoys me most is that they are posing as if this is some new and great idea.

    Unreal

    • Logic says:

It is not a new idea, but for an agent to sell Bermuda and its properties WELL don’t you think they should actually come and experience for themselves. Nothing worse than speaking to an agent who knows nothing of the destination except for Bermuda has beautiful beaches. Instead being negative, how about seeing the positive and see what happens. You might be surprised.
