Front Street Parking Restrictions Instituted

July 18, 2012

The City of Hamilton today [July 18] said that parking restrictions have been instituted on Front Street between Court and King Streets.

Chief Operating Officer and Secretary for the City of Hamilton, Mr. Edward Benevides, stated, “As a result of the implementation of traffic lights at the intersection of Court and Front Streets, parking changes have to be instituted to ensure that traffic continues to flow freely in the area, specifically during rush hour.

“Six parking spaces have been removed from the north side of Front Street between Court and King Streets. As of today, there is no parking in this area from 8:00am to 10:00am and between 4:00pm and 6:00pm Monday to Saturday.

“From Monday, July 23, 2012, the dock entrance opposite Court Street will become operational. This means tractor trailers and trucks entering and leaving the docks will do so through the new entrance. The other change which was implemented a few months ago, to ensure the public’s safety, is the bus stop which was located outside of Customs House has been removed.”

Mr. Benevides continued, “The City of Hamilton is aware of the concerns expressed by the general public. These traffic and parking modifications are necessary to ensure this busy intersection allows for full line of sight of the intersection by motorists and ensures the safety of pedestrians.”

“In the coming weeks, we will continue to monitor the traffic flow at this intersection and may make modifications, as needed. I urge the public, pedestrians and motorists, to continue to use extreme caution in this area. If anyone has questions, I encourage them to call City Hall at 292 1234,” Mr. Benevides concluded.

So is it fair to say that this announcement came after several cars had tickets placed on them earlier this week? Of course, the traffic warden waited for people to park than ticket! What is the solution to those problems?

Announced on the 18th, and I was ticketed on the 17th. “Honestly” , do I have a case for redress ?

This is Bermuda. We do things retro-activly…

Trash trucks still gonna come down the street during rush hour too??

If people got ticketed, it is their own fault. The Yellow markings are already there. Last week I took a chance while gunning into The Supreme Court Office on Front Street. I was lucky and thankful, it is a pity that the parking spots have been removed, but that is progress.

I received a ticket and was not parked on the yellow line. I was outside the restaurant. Corporation of Hamilton out of courtesy should have put a warning sign at the junction of court street and front street to make the public aware of the new parking restrictions.
I do not see any problem as they do it every Wednesday on reid street with the BIG RED SIGN reminding you not to park because of harbor nights.

How long has Harbor nights being going on for?

  4. Get With It! says:

…that should be running into The Supreme Court Bldg…
