Shawn Thompson Wins BDOT Video Competition

July 6, 2012

Minister of Business Development and Tourism Wayne Furbert today [July 6] announced Shawn Thompson as the winner of the Bermuda Department of Tourism’s [BDOT] Video Competition.

The Video Competition was announced in May of this year and the Department received eight videos from local amateur freelance and professional videographers all competing for the $5,000 prize.

Shawn Thompson is a Bermudian freelance videographer that specializes in shooting weddings, documentaries and television commercials. The winning video features a storyline of couple’s trip to Bermuda and their subsequent return to the island to get married.

Minister Furbert said: “Shawn’s video was exactly what we are looking for. It showcases the beauty of Bermuda’s natural environment including beautiful beaches, lush landscapes, vibrant nightlife and, of course, locals and visitors enjoying themselves at venues across the island.”

The quarterly competition is open to all Bermuda residents. Video content should target potential visitors to Bermuda and address the question why should you visit Bermuda. The content must inspire visitors to want to come with positive images and scenes.

Additional criteria for production are all videos must be of HD quality; proof of ownership or copyright release for music is required in writing; videos should not exceed two-minutes; and must not include any obscene content or language and nudity and product marketing is prohibited.

The next deadline for second quarter submissions is October 15, 2012. A committee will select the best video with the winner receiving $5,000. The winning video will be posted on Bermuda Department of Tourism website, YouTube channel and FaceBook page. Entries must be emailed to Tina Evans Caines, Manager, On-island Communications, Bermuda Department of Tourism at emevans-caines@gov.bm

To think over the years we paid millions, all without supporting invoices or documentary evidence to that overseas Chap who is a friend of the previous Chap in charge of Tourism when seemingly we have skilled and talented people right here in Bermuda…
