Italians Win Bermuda Beach Tennis Tournament

Michelle Cappelleti and Alessandro Calbucci from Italy and Eva D’Elia and Simona Bonadonna also from Italy were crowned the 2012 Bermuda Beach Tennis Tournament Male and Female Champions.

The Champions were crowned on Day Two of the 5th ITF (International Tennis Federation) Bermuda Beach Tennis Tournament at the Horseshoe Bay Beach. Day Two saw the Professional Ladies and Men’s Semi-Finals and then Finals take place.

In the Men’s Semi-Finals Michelle Cappelleti and Alessandro Calbucci from Italy defeated Matt Garavaglia and Stephan Sayoc from the USA in straight sets 6-0, 6-3, while Alex Mingozzi and Matteo Marighella defeated Marcus Ferreira and Thales Santos from Brazil 6-4, 6-3 in the other Semi-Final.

The Final went to three sets with Cappelleti and Calbucci winning the first set 6-4, but Mingozzi and Marighella fought back to win the second set 7-5, Cappelleti and Calbucci then won the third and final set 6-2 to lift the Men’s Title.

Italians Eva D’Elia and Simona Bonadonna advanced to the Finals with a straight sets win over Tatiana Olivieri and Luciene Capienza-Muro 6-2, 6-1 in one Women’s Semi-Final, while Nicole Melch and Nadia Johnson defeated Joana Cortez and Flavia Muniz in a three setter.

Cortez and Muniz won the first set 6-3, but Melch and Johnson bounced back to win the next two sets 6-0, 7-5 in the other Semi-Final. In the Final D’Elia and Simona Bonadonna defeated Melch and Johnson in straight sets 6-2, 6-3.
