Marine Advisory: Round The Island Boat Race

August 10, 2012

“With the Round the Island boat race taking place this Sunday [Aug 12], the Marine Police would like to caution anyone who may be a participant or spectator of the event to act as safely as possible,” Police spokesman Dwayne Caines said.

“If you plan to venture out on a boat, please make sure to have all necessary safety equipment and gear onboard your vessel. Be mindful of the 5-knot no wake zones, and also of swimmers who may be in the water.

“We also ask that spectators both on land and in the water keep a safe distance from the race course to avoid interfering with the race or being struck. Please be aware that the Ferry Reach swing bridge will be closed to all marine traffic between 1:30pm and 3:30pm.”
