Police Statistics: 177 Traffic Accidents In July

The latest road traffic collision statistics reveal that there were 177 accidents last month; three fatal road accidents, 83 resulting in injury, and 91 damage only collisions.

Out of the 83 accidents resulting injury in July; three were fatal, six landed people in the ICU, 12 were described as “serious” and 78 were described as “slight.”

Eleven people failed to stop, three of the accidents involved pedal cycles, two involved pedestrians, four involved children, and one accident involved animals. Seven people were arrested in July 2012 for DUI.

There were 182 local males involved in accidents last month, and 14 male visitors. 97 local females involved and 9 female visitors. In total, there have been 1,112 accidents this year.

The causes of accidents for July 2012 were:

  • Bad Road Surface – 6
  • Entering Main Road Carelessly – 9
  • Following Too Close – 17
  • Inattention – 50
  • Inexperienced – 32
  • Overtaking Improperly – 12

Ages of Persons Involved:

  • Up to 15 years – 4 [1.3%]
  • 16 to 20 years – 45 [14.9%]
  •  21 to 30 years -57 [18.9%]
  •  31 to 40 years -48 [15.9%]
  • 41 to 50 years- 50 [16.5%]
  • 51 to 65 years -73 [24.2%]
  • 66 years and over – 25 [8.3%]
