Prisoner Pleads Guilty To Head-Butting Officer
Currently serving a 30-year sentence for attempted murder, 21-year-old Sanchey Grant was back in Court this morning [Aug 23], where he received a six month sentence which will run concurrently with his longer sentence.
Grant had pleaded guilty to head-butting a prison officer on the morning of 23rd March 2012 inside the maximum security section at Westgate Correctional Facility.
This had happened during a struggle whilst he was being handcuffed after he had refused to submit to a search.
Asked by Senior Magistrate Archie Warner if he had anything to say, Grant said: “Nuffin to say” and promptly sat down.
Addressing Crown Counsel Carrington Mahoney the Senior Magistrate said that there must be a better way to deal with a matter such as this, and it “embarrasses the Court.”

It doesn’t seem to embarrass the court but it sure does embarrass Bermuda to give thugs a six month sentence CONCURRENTLY with the 30 year sentence they are already serving.
FFS, at least add the six months on to the end of his 30 years, and make him serve the full 30 years now.

This crap should be able to be handled within the Prison system so as not to be wasting tax payer money and court time.

I remember sitting right across from him. His respose isn’t surprising. Sanchey, you were given a chance just like the rest of us, why did you screw it up? You acted as if jail was where you wanted to be, is it everything you hoped for? You wasted your life that was only just beginning, and what do you have to show for it? The person you did this for, what do they have to show for it? Not a white tee and tan dickies, thats for sure. Maybe they’ll come visit, or maybe not…such a sad case but you made your bed.
Sanchay has such nice parents and family.
It’s a total shame for him to be acting this way…

Another 30 years should be added to his sentence. Scum like this should die in jail.

I guess this could matter if he tries to get early parole but I doubt it.

i wander how parents feel to see their sons that they raised and loved like nothing else in the world go down like this ,, i have two kids and it would crush me to see them end up like these lot,,,, and you remember how they looked to you for support when they were small,and help,and how they come to you when hurt or scared so you could hold them, and you tried to protect them from evil things and people,

I think you all on here have covered this ridiculous waste of time pretty well. Just want to note, that as you all have said “what a waste of time this whole process is”, this incident will sit on his record when he goes up for parole. It may be funny now, but hopefully a parole board with a set of balls don’t even allow him to sit down. Soon as he hits the entrance door he should be told “Come back in 6 months when you’ve served your time for the Prison Officer incident” (now that in fact he has been found guilty).
Today it may not sink in, but going to your parole hearing with your hopes up of getting released and being confronted with your action than; will properly send a message.
