Schedule Of Activities For Labour Day Weekend

[Updated] The Joint Labour Day Organising Committee announced the schedule of events for the upcoming Labour Day Weekend, which has a theme of “Trade Union Rights Under Attack” this year. Sponsors include Barritt’s, Bermuda Train Company, Corporation of Hamilton, BELCO and the Bermuda Trade Union Congress.

  • Annual Labour Day Banquet
  • Guest Speaker: The Hon. Baldwin Spencer, Prime Minister of Antigua & Barbuda
  • Fairmont Southampton Resort & Spa
  • Cocktails – 6:45 p.m. – 7:45 p.m.
  • Dinner: 8:00 p.m.

  • 11:00 a.m. – Labour Day Greetings from Trade Unionists Government and Opposition Leaders
  • 11:25 a.m. – Train Ride for Senior Citizens
  • 11:30 a.m. – Start of Labour Day March- Union Square
  • 12:30 p.m. – March returns to Union Square
  • Uptown Carnival – North Hamilton
  • 12:30 p.m. – Carnival Bands, Majorettes, Gombeys, Childen’s Park, Food Stalls, Floats, Costume Prizes, Entertainment, Historical Information

Update Aug 28: Labour Day organisers have advised, “The afternoon events, i.e. Uptown Carnival for North Hamilton have been cancelled”

    I think an uptown carnival is a creative and fresh spin to attract young people despite what a few “seasoned” unionists might say.
