Under/12 Basketball Team Playing In Florida

The Bermuda Under 12 team of Caelin Peters, Kenai Stowe, Jacy Lowery, Derek Tucker-Peters, Kobie Reid, Colby Mapp, Zane Curtis-Thomas, Kumari Tannock, Mical Hardtman, Rye Ahronson, Tyler Hurdle, and Miguel Perry played their first match in the 2012 Global Cup tournament.

They took on the Philippines at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex in Orlando, Florida, losing in overtime 30-28. Bermuda started off strong taking an early lead on strong inside play by Kobe Mapp.

The Philippines made a strong comeback with good outside shooting and tough ball pressure defense into the second half of play. At the end of regulation with Bermuda trailing by two points, Caelin Peters made a driving lay up to tie the game and force overtime.

Coach Charles Peters said, “I have to congratulate the Under 12 boys as this was their first game in international competition and I believe they done a remarkable job.”

Bermuda will take on the United States next, the US team defeated Australia’s U12 boys by a wide margin in their match up yesterday.

The Under 12 players have just completed a 2-day training camp featuring former NBA professional players such as Wayne Rollins former Atlanta Hawk and Anthony Parker former Cleveland Cavalier. The Under 12 players also learned about fitness, nutrition, and completed speed training with a current NFL agility coach and a former Olympic athlete.
