Premier Cox Visits St George’s Businesses
Recently, the Premier Paula Cox visited the Town of St. George’s to show her support for small business entrepreneurs.
Yesterday Premier Cox said she was pleased with the latest developments of millions of dollars of investment being pumped into the economy and referenced Link Bermuda and the Green family’s purchase of Fairmont Hamilton Princess as an example.
Last week Premier Cox visited a number of new businesses which have sprung up in the east end that included the A2Z Shoes and Accessories, The Cave, a store which serves men’s apparel, Last Night Boutique and Tamasun’s Japanese House, a new restaurant in St George’s where she also enjoyed lunch.
Premier Cox said she was encouraged that young Bermudians were taking a leap of faith and stepping out to start up their own businesses. And she said that these were additional indications that there are pockets of success occurring with Bermuda’s economic recovery.
Premier Cox said today, “I was delighted to visit St. George’s to support these entrepreneurs. These are tough times for the economy, however our policies to stimulate growth by providing tax breaks and expanding the Economic Empowerment Zones into the east and west ends of the Island are bearing fruit.
“These entrepreneurs are to be applauded for their efforts in starting new businesses. It was a pleasure to patronise their establishments and it is my sincere hope that Bermuda’s residents will take some time out and travel to St. George’s to support their efforts.”
During last week’s east end visit, Premier Cox was accompanied by EEZ Economic Development Officer Raymond Lambert and Sen. David Burt, in his capacity of Junior Minister for Economy, Trade and Industry.

Wow, looks like she had to fight her way through the throngs of tourists on the streets of St. George’s.
She should have taken Wayne with her.

Busy places……!
That’s all good, but compare this to St. George’s pre-Brown era…its nothing…in fact it’s depressing. Best of luck to these new businesses, but whatever PLP says they are doing for St. George’s is nothing compared to the damage that was done by them all this time.
PLP killed the east to feed the west. Cruise ships are gone up west now. Killed off St. George’s Golf club…put millions into Port Royal. No sign of development of Club Med but…hey we’re about to start Morgan’s Point! Shabby Police Station…Bridge’s are breaking down…ferry services cutbacks…They must want St. Georgians to move up to them Warwick condos.
Remember they wanted to kill off the municipalities before? Not to kill the entrepreneurial spirit of Bermudian, all the best in doing what it takes to turn this island around….just lets not forget what got us here in the first place.

Whilst I agree with the statements I also feel that Premier Cox, BEDC and many entrepenuers are looking at St George in the hopes of revitalizing it. We need to support this! We all know Dr Brown messed things up but where do we start? Can we all stop being so negative and be positive and help each other!

Visitors I spoke with were totally blown away at how dead the place is.
To top it off the service they received at a resturant was aweful and the food worse.
No sense trying to fool us, the town is a waste land.
So when does the ‘Tumbleweed’ arrive for St. George?
If a politician makes a PR trip (purely for political gain) and no photographers are there to record it, was she ever even there?

It sounds like the plp are trying to take credit – again – for something they had nothing to do with. As I understand it these businesses opened up in St George’s without grants from the EEZ people. I could be wrong.
As far as the Greens buying the Hamilton Princes, and Link Bermuda’s (C&W) long term plans are concerned. They are just plans at this stage. So why is Paula trying to imply that the plp had anything to do with the innovative Link Bermuda plans.
I’m sure the Greens closed the deal with the owners of the Princess all by themselves. With no plp involvement… other than perhaps some possible tax breaks.
Are the plp are hanging onto to others’ successes because they have none of their own?
